Applications have been invited for the National Eligibility Test (NET) for Junior Research Fellowship and Lectureship to be conducted on June 17 by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research and the University Grants Commission for science subjects.

The test centres include Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Karaikudi, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Nagpur, Pune, Varanasi, Delhi, and Kolkata.

A candidate may apply for lectureship only or for both. Two merit lists will be prepared when the results are announced.

Those with an M.Sc. degree with minimum 55 per cent marks (50 per cent for those belonging to the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes, the physically and visually challenged, and those with a Ph.D. degree who have passed the Master's course prior to September 19, 1991) are eligible to apply.

Those who have appeared, or are appearing, for their final M.Sc. examinations during 2011-12 are also eligible to apply for the test.

The upper age limit for JRF is 28 as on January 1, 2012, relaxed up to five years for those belonging to the Scheduled Castes, the Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Castes, the physically and visually challenged, and women.

The single-paper test will have multiple-choice questions. From 9 am to 12 noon, the test for life sciences and mathematical sciences subjects will be held. From 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., the tests will be for chemical sciences, earth, atmospheric, ocean, and planetary sciences, and physical sciences.

There will be 400 marks. Part A of the question paper will be common to all subjects and candidates, with questions from general science, quantitative reasoning and analysis, and research aptitude. Part B will contain subject-related multiple-choice questions, generally covering the topics given in the syllabus. Part C will contain higher value questions that may test the candidates' knowledge of scientific concepts. Wrong answers attract negative marking. The syllabus and the scheme of examination have been posted on www.csirhrdg.res.in

Applications can be submitted online up to March 21 on the website. Offline application forms and information bulletins can be had from selected branches of Indian Bank up to March 20 on payment of Rs.400 (Rs.200 for reserved sections). In Kerala, the branches at Thiruvananthapuram (Indian Bank Towers, Mahatma Gandhi Road); Kottayam (Baker Junction, Main Central Road); Kochi (Bypass, Vyttila); Thrissur (Swaraj Round East); and Kozhikode (Sweet Meat Street) will distribute the forms. The filled application forms or printouts of online applications, along with documents, should be sent under certificate of posting or by ordinary post to the Senior Controller of Examinations, Examination Unit, Human Resource Development Group, CSIR Complex, Pusa, New Delhi – 110 012 so as to reach the official on or before March 26.

Amrita entrance test

The Amrita School of Medicine has invited applications for its undergraduate medical entrance examinations to be held on May 19 for admission to the MBBS, BDS, and BAMS courses.

The examination centres include Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam (Amritapuri), Kochi, Kozhikode, Coimbatore, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, New Delhi, and Kolkata and California in the U.S.

Those who have passed Plus Two or equivalent examinations in the first attempt with 60 per cent marks in physics, chemistry, and biology or biotechnology taken together and 60 per cent marks in English separately are eligible to apply. The candidates should be in the 17-23 age group as on December 21, 2012.

The application fee is Rs.1,500. Submit applications online or download the application form from www.amrita.edu. The forms will be distributed from March 1 through select branches of Dhanlaxmi Bank or Federal Bank on payment of the fee. The fee can also be paid in the form of a demand draft drawn in favour of Amrita Vishwavidyalayam payable at Kochi.
