JNU entrance test

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, has invited applications for national-level entrance examinations to be held from May 22 to 25 for admission to various postgraduate courses and the M.Phil. and the Ph.D. programmes offered at its schools. The entrance examination centres include Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, Coimbatore, Madurai, Goa, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Mumbai, Nagpur, Lucknow, Delhi, and Kolkata.

Schools and courses

School of International Studies: MA politics with specialisation in international relations; MA economics with specialisation in world economy; M.Phil.; and Ph.D. in international politics, international organisation, diplomacy and disarmament, political geography, international legal studies, international trade and development, and so on.

School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies: MA in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Russian, Spanish, Urdu, and linguistics; BA (Honours) in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Russian, and Spanish; M.Phil.; and Ph.D. in French, German, Arabic, Russian, Persian, Chinese, Urdu, Hindi, Tamil, Hindi translation, English, Japanese, Spanish, and linguistics.

School of Social Sciences: Master of Public Health; MA economics, geography, history, political science and sociology; M.Phil., and Ph.D.

School of Life Sciences: M.Sc. life sciences; M.Phil.; and Ph.D.

School of Environmental Sciences: M.Sc. environmental sciences; M.Phil.; and Ph.D.

School of Biotechnology: Pre-Ph.D. and Ph.D.

Centre for Sanskrit Studies: MA in Sanskrit, M.Phil., and Ph.D.

Centre for Molecular Medicine: Pre-Ph.D. and Ph.D.

Centre for the Study of Law and Governance: M.Phil. and Ph.D. in law and governance.

Besides these, applications have been invited for direct admission to Ph.D. programmes in various disciplines and for admission to M.Phil., Ph.D., and pre- Ph.D. and Ph.D. programmes in science schools for those with Junior Research Fellowship.

Details of programmes, eligibility criteria and application procedure, selection, and so on are available on www.jnu.ac.in. The last date for receipt of completed applications is March 21.

NIMCET

The National Institute of Technology (NIT), Warangal, has invited applications for the NIT MCA Common Entrance Test (NIMCET) to be held on May 20 across the country for admission to the MCA course at 11 NITs at Calicut (Kozhikode), Tiruchirapalli, Surathkal, Warangal, Agartala, Allahabad, Bhopal, Durgapur, Jamshedpur, Kurukshetra, and Raipur.

Indian nationals with at least 60 per cent marks (55 per cent for those belonging to the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes) in the 12th standard with mathematics as one of the subjects and a Bachelor's degree with at least one subject from mathematics, statistics, business mathematics, business statistics, discrete mathematics, mathematical foundation of computer science, computational mathematics, elementary mathematics, and statistics are eligible to apply. The percentage of marks in Plus Two and the qualifying degree examinations is calculated in aggregate of all subjects studied. Those appearing in the qualifying examination in 2012 are also eligible to apply, but they have to prove their qualification at the time of counselling or admission and not later than August 31.

Applications may be submitted online on http://nimcet2012.nitw.ac.in. till April 9. A printout of the application, along with relevant documents, should be sent to the Secretary, NIMCET-2012, National Institute of Technology, Warangal, Andhra Pradesh – 506 004, by registered post so as to reach there on or before April 16. The processing and test fee of Rs.1,500 (Rs.750 for those belonging to the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes) should be paid in the form of a demand draft drawn in favour of NIMCET-2012 payable at Warangal.

In Kerala, NIT, Calicut, will be the test centre. There are 846 seats, of which 46 are in the Calicut institution.

The NIMCET question paper will have 120 multiple-choice questions, with 50 mathematics questions, 40 analytical ability and logical reasoning questions, 10 computer awareness questions, and 20 general English questions.
