IIT-Gandhinagar inks pact with WUStL for cross-disciplinary research

Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IIT-GN) has inked a pact with the Washington University in St Louis (WUStL) for cross-disciplinary research in the field of energy and environment.

The joint collaborative programme with WUStL will help Chemical and Mechanical engineering undergraduate students of the institute in participating in summer internship programme in May 2010, an official statement said.

Students selected from IIT-GN will work for 10 weeks in laboratories at WUStL on topics like designing next generation solar cells, technologies for carbon dioxide capture and mitigation from coal combustors, aerosol science and technology and water quality issues in energy systems, it added.

The students will get an opportunity to interact with undergraduate students of WUStL and work in a cohort research group, the statement said.

“In addition, they will interact with doctoral students and McDonnell Academy Scholars during their stay at WUStL,” an IIT-GN official said.

This collaborative programme will allow the students gain research experience, and facilitate collaborations on energy and environment between the faculty members of these two institutes, the statement said.
