Aviation medicine applies medical knowledge to the human factors in aviation. Every factor contributing to a safe flight has a failure rate. The crew of an aircraft is no different. Aviation medicine aims to keep this rate in the humans involved equal to or below a specified risk level. This standard of risk is also applied to airframe, avionics and systems associated with flights.

Bangalore became the centre for the School of Aviation Medicine (SAM) on May 29, 1957, and was rechristened as the Institute of Aviation Medicine (IAM) in 1968. In 1989, it was redesignated as the Institute of Aerospace Medicine (IAM). It is one of the premier aeromedical centres in the world.
IAM is the only institute of its kind in South-East Asia that offers a postgraduate degree (MD) in Aerospace Medicine. The course is of three years’ duration and is interdisciplinary, taking inputs from diverse fields such as medicine, physiology, psychology, biophysics, and bioengineering. The Institute is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, for conducting the postgraduate degree. The qualifications required are MBBS with minimum 55 per cent marks and registration with the State Medical Council
The Institute is open to civilian students and service medical officers from the Army, Navy and Air Force. Admission is based on an all-India written entrance examination (multiple-choice type) followed by an interview for selected candidates.
Environmental Studies
I completed my B.Sc. in Biotechnology with 78 per cent marks. My areas of specialisation were Biotechnology, Zoology and Chemistry. I am studying for a six-month Diploma in Biotechnology from an institute. On completion of the Diploma I want to pursue M.Sc in Environmental Studies. My aim is to get into the world of research. Mining Engineering

One of the best places to pursue a programme in Mining Engineering is the Indian School of Mines University (1926) (ISMU) (www.ismdhanbad.ac.in), Dhanbad. It was granted the status of a deemed to be University under the UGC Act, 1967. The Department of Mining Engineering of the ISMU was the first of Departments that commenced operations in 1926; and from then on it has gone from strength to strength. The Department conducts the following programmes:
(i) Four-year B.Tech in Mining Engineering.
(ii) Two-year M.Tech in Opencast Mining, Mine Planning and Design, Rock Excavation Engineering, Mining Engineering, Underground Space Technology and Geomatic Engineering.
Under the five-year Integrated Courses leading to dual degrees of ISMU are:
