‘Robomate – flip classroom’

At a time when the educational institutions are fast exploring e-learning technology, Mahesh PU College in Hubballi-Dharwad has launched the unique ‘Robomate – flip classroom’, an innovative phenomenon towards empowering the students.

“It is for the first time in Karnataka that the tabs with video lectures are provided to the students. It helps the users to listen to teachers anywhere and anytime,” said Umesh Purohit, Principal, Mahesh P.U. College.

The ‘Robomate’ consists of video lectures along with power-point presentations and multiple choice questions on all chapters. They are further divided into modules and each module has all of the above. . Students are advised to go through a particular video at home and the same chapter is taught in the classroom the next day. It helps them to come prepared and understand the subject better, he said.

The college has provided tabs installed with the e-learning software to all students. Care has been taken to ensure that the tabs are used only for educational purpose. The students have no access to social media. No material can be copied from these tabs to any other system and no other software can be used including the use of SIM and memory cards. The moment the students step into the campus, the tabs are automatically connected to the college Wi-Fi. “We also monitor which student downloads what file and how many times,” Purohit said.
