The 42nd annual convention of the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), a premium professional body of technical education, saw the participation of more than 1,000 teachers, students, administrators and industry representatives discussing the need to strengthen technical education so that better products come out of the colleges.
The convention hosted by the Anurag Group of Institutions had speakers such as D.K Paliwal, Member of secretary, NBA; D.N. Reddy, Chairman, RAC, DRDO and R. Natarajan, former Chairman of AICTE. Dr. Natarajan presented a paper on “Achieving Excellence in Technical Education”. He said the field requires trained faculties, good infrastructure and making use of facilities properly.
Y. Harish Chandra Prasad, chairman of Mahalaxmi Group delivered a lecture on “Employability Generation”. He said apart from possessing core knowledge students should ensure that they communicate effectively to excel. He said students who manage time better during the college days will excel in their job. Students should be taught to take risks and that’s how entrepreneurs are born, he felt.
Prof. D.N. Reddy explained how technology should be used to improve teaching. He said modern tools should be used for teaching effectively and the faculty should be trained in this direction to overcome shortage of quality teaching, which he said was the biggest challenge in technical education now.
CMD of Infotech, B.V.R.Mohan Reddy spoke on the importance of curriculum design and how industry-ready graduates were the need of the time. Teachers had a responsibility to produce employable students and graduates who are ready to work from day one. For this, there is a need to be better coordination between industry and the academia.
T.K.K.Reddy, OSD to JNTUH explained about Institutional Assessment and NAAC Accreditation process and the benefits.
