Learning does not stop with a graduation or postgraduation. Constantly upgrading skills and knowledge is essential for surviving in this competitive world. After five years of working at various establishments such as Tata Capital, HDFC Bank, British Council and British Deputy High Commission, I decided to take a break. I had a master’s degree in commerce and an MBA with specialisation in banking. To enhance my skills further, I decided to pursue an International MBA programme.
I joined the PG Certificate course in International Business at Stella Maris College, Chennai, which gives students a chance to study at Liverpool Hope University (LHU) Business School upon successful completion of the course. I was especially excited about studying at LHU, which was one of the main reasons why I joined the programme.
An overseas study is often seen as an opportunity for gaining employment abroad. But I was not interested in seeking a job in the U.K. My purpose and intentions were very clear: gaining knowledge in terms of curriculum and environment, broadening my network, self-improvement through practical experience, and applying the learning in my work and life after going back home.
During my stay in Liverpool, I sharpened my business and management knowledge, improved my team work and communication skills, and learnt to work with people from diverse cultures.
The staff and faculty at the LHU are highly qualified and supportive. The university provides every possible help and assistance to students and never fails to appreciate and recognise hard work.
Opportunities to excel are in abundance and I decided to hone my skills further by working at THIS Radio, the official radio of the university.
Campus lifeI thoroughly enjoyed the lectures because of the interactive and unconventional ways of teaching. All the lectures, seminar activities and class presentations are highly relevant to the course curriculum which helped me gain a better understanding of the course in a real world scenario.
The university is also involved in charity work and encourages its students to engage in welfare activities. Student union and the chaplaincy within the university are great aids to students. There is also a student well-being and development department which is specially designed to help students with academic and non-academic issues.
The library within the university has a good collection of academic literature, books and online resources which are useful for student assignments and exams. There is a writing mentor team which helps students write their assignments and fulfil the overall academic needs. The library is accessible 24/7 to enable students to complete their assignments, projects and dissertations.
Staying at the Halls of Residence at Aigburth is a wonderful experience. Major super markets such as TESCO, Heron and Home Bargains are located close by. The nearest rail connect is St. Michael’s Railway Station, which is two stations away from Liverpool Central, the hub of City Centre. There is a bus stop and eateries such as McDonalds are close by. Parties are held at the Trinity Room and one can dance with friends from around the world. A stroll around the Albert Dock is a lifetime experience. Avid shoppers can visit the City Centre and there are two theatres that screen Indian movies occasionally.
Albert Dock is a prime location for watching the sunset over the Mersey Sea while sipping coffee or tea and munching snacks. Liverpool is a city brimming with life, colours and fun. Wheather it is rains, sunshine or snow, Liverpool always showcases something for you to enjoy. One can visit historic buildings of the 17th and 18th century. The Titanic ship was registered in Liverpool and its office can be seen even today.
Liverpool is gearing to host the International Festival for Business in June and July this year. Business is on the top of the agenda for Liverpool, which attracts countries to invest here due to its infrastructure and cost, coupled with the ease of doing business.
