“Don’t be disheartened by temporary setbacks in the pursuit of your chosen career,” said Deputy Commissioner of Mysuru C. Shikha, while participating in The Hindu EducationPlus Career Counselling 2015 programme held at the Senate Bhavan in Manasagangothri campus here on Sunday.

Speaking after releasing the handbook containing several well researched articles on a variety of career choices, Ms. Shikha urged the students to pursue the career of their choice with determination.

She cited her own example of how she worked in the banking industry and Railways after completing her B.E. course. “Every opportunity is a teacher”, she said.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) representative M. Srinivasan briefed the students about the admission procedure for professional courses under the Common Entrance Test (CET) quota, and urged them to keep a daily watch on the website of KEA (kea.kar.nic.in).

While general education representative Shoaib Valai made a presentation on alternative careers, Principal of Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (SJCE) Shakeeb Ur Rahman, Professor of Horticulture at the College of Horticulture, Mysuru, B.G. Prakash, and Professor of Community Medicine at Mysore Medical College S.N. Manjunath were also present as panellists.

More than 500 persons turned up for the event held on the premises of Senate Bhavan.
