The Kolar District Commerce Study Centre, a forum of commerce lecturers in pre-university colleges, organised a workshop for lecturers and felicitation for meritorious students at Methodist PU College recently.

Inaugurating the programme, Deputy Director of Pre-University Education Department M.G. Doreswamy called upon the teaching faculty to improve their knowledge by continuous study. Teachers should be a role model for students and develop the ability to solve the problems faced by students. Time sense is very important for those in the teaching profession, he added.

The chief guest, District Principals’ Association president K. Venkateshappa, said of late there was more demand for the commerce stream than science.

Students who scored well in commerce in the second PU examinations in the previous academic year were felicitated.

World Suicide Prevention Day: A programme to create awareness against suicides was conducted at R.L. Jalappa Hospital here in association with Sri Devaraj Urs Academy for Higher Education and Research. Professor Mohan Reddy and associate professor Jagadish explained the causes of suicide and remedies for many problems which drive people towards suicide. “One should not fear the challenges in life and overcome them and achieve something in life”, they said.

Psychology students participated in the programme.
