Bangalore-based Shwetha Srinivasan, who is doing an integrated course in Bachelor’s and Master’s with a major in chemical sciences from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) in Mohali, has a claim to fame many will envy. She got to work with a Nobel laureate.
She was in Germany in July last year to attend a meeting of Nobel laureates. She was among the 25 from India from among the thousands of science students who had applied for the five-day Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting. That is when she got in touch with Nobel Prize-winning scientist Hartmut Michel. She got the opportunity to work with him in a summer internship in his research lab at Max Planck Institute of Biophysics, where he is the director. The icing on the cake was that the three-month stint was an all-expenses-paid fellowship.
