Online course in sound design

Edinburgh Napier University is offering an online master’s course in sound design. The new work-based M.Sc. in Sound Design builds upon the university’s close relationships with internationally recognised sound designers and its research record in listening and sound design.

The degree has been structured so that the majority of learning and studying takes place in the workplace or online, providing opportunities to learn alongside industry peers and develop professional networks. Course leader Dr. Iain McGregor says graduates could expect to become advanced sound professionals within linear and/or interactive media.

“Graduates would be suitable for a wide variety of sound design posts in a number of forms of linear and interactive media such as audio books, film, games, radio, television and theatre.”

Applications for the 18-month course, which can be taken as a 12-month postgraduate diploma before topping up to a master’s degree with a dissertation, are encouraged from those:

- Involved with sound design and who wish to gain a greater understanding of the subject.

- In sound production but wish to move into sound design.

- Who design sound and would like to gain postgraduate qualifications in the field.

Students can start in January, May or September. For further information about the course, contact Dr. Iain McGregor at i.mcgregor@napier.ac.uk. The course’s twitter handle is >@SoundDesignMSc
