Inaugurated: The Social Entrepreneurship Cell of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) College was inaugurated in Udupi on December 22.
Speaking on the occasion, K.P. Rao, software expert, said that the direction of entrepreneurship changed along with changing technology.
“Entrepreneurs should constantly update themselves with technological changes to remain in business,” he said.
H.G. Joshi, Chairperson of Dr. T.M.A. Pai Endowment Chair for Social Entrepreneurship, Manipal University, highlighted the need for developing social entrepreneurship in the region.
Sandeep Shenoy, Professor, Department of Commerce, Manipal University, Vasudev Rao, President of Parkala Lions Club, and Kusuma Kamath, Principal of the college, were present.
Experts’ visit: A team of five members headed by Ken’ichi Kasahara, Dean, School of Science and Technology, Ritsumeikan University, Kyoto, Japan, visited the NMAM Institute of Technology (NMAMIT) at Nitte in Udupi district on December 20.
The objective of the visit was to enhance the tie-up between the two institutions through student exchange programmes for short-term diploma/certificate courses and long-term technical degree courses.
Bilateral talks were held regarding the facilities available for higher research activities, to sponsor faculty/students and also to have an agreement for medical courses.
Later, the team visited various departments at NMAMIT to see the facilities available for research. N. Vinaya Hegde, Chancellor of Nitte University; S. Ramananda Shetty, Vice-Chancellor, and Niranjan Chiplunkar, Principal of NMAMIT, were present.
Lecture: The School of Management, Manipal University, organised a lecture on “Managerial issues in hospitals” for the MBA Healthcare Management students on December 19. Speaking on the occasion, Ranjan Shetty, Professor, Department of Cardiology, Kasturba Medical College, highlighted the roles and responsibilities of the managers in bridging the gap between healthcare professionals and management.
The healthcare management students should know the expectations of the doctors in delivering quality healthcare services to patients.
He emphasized on ethical practice in the field of healthcare management.
