Rapid decrease in the intake of mathematics and science courses during the last few years is leading to shortage of teachers in these subjects in the professional courses and there is an urgent need create interest among the students in these subjects, opined L. Venugopal Reddy, Chairman, A.P. State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE).
He expressed these views while inaugurating a national conference on “Recent Trends and Applications in Mathematics”, organised by the Anurag Group of Institutions (AGI) and Andhra Pradesh Society for Mathematics and Sciences (APSMS).
Five-year integrated courses He said serious discussions were on with intellectuals and educationists to motivate the students to study basic sciences and introduction of 5 year integrated courses to attract them.
Mrunal K Sen, Director NGRI mentioned that mathematics is the key for the many applied sciences like Geophysics, Astrophysics, etc.
He said that mathematics is quite pivotal to find out the resources such as minerals, and other engineering applications. G. Sarojamma, President of APSMS, P. Rajeshwar Reddy, Chairman of AGI, Prof. M.Bhagvanth Rao, Director and Prof. Mutha Reddy, Principal were among who spoke.
Around 560 delegates across the country participated in the event and 16 Endowment Lectures and 112 research papers were presented in the conference.
