Your attitude, your values and your vision form the blue print of your success. Anything is possible to achieve by psyching oneself with positive thinking. — These were the words of wisdom by motivational speaker and author Shiv Khera who was in Chennai recently.

Positive thinking alone cannot guarantee success. “It is a supplement, not a substitute for your action plan. Your positive action combined with positive thinking results in success.”

Will vs. skill

Mr. Khera said that it was will power more than skill that contributes to one’s success. Even though technical skill and people skill are essential, it is people skill that is vital as you climb higher in your career. By building relationships, many problems can be solved. Today’s generation are tech savvy, but on the flip side they have become uncomfortable with people. If people skill is lacking, they cannot taste success. Few are willing to pay the price for the preparation for success, but everyone wants to be successful.

Selling

When it comes to selling, Mr. Khera says that success in life depends on our ability to sell. Integrity and courtesy is the key here, and these are not strategies but essential values of life. By distinctly understanding the difference between promises we make and commitment we stand for, one can be successful in selling.

Character

For most of us negative thinking has become habitual. Positive behaviour has to be a reflex action. Develop good habits, for it greatly contributes to positive habits and attitudes. Give importance to your reputation and most importantly your character. Keep up your self-esteem.

Tips for Class XII students

Do not give too much of importance to your grades/scores in this one exam alone. Do not confuse failure in exam to failure in life itself. Youngsters perceive the world to be highly competitive. But give it a thought, success is easier today and opportunities aplenty. Just be willing to work hard and all will be well. Reservation is depriving students of many a good opportunity. Reservation is a tool in the hands of the politicians, it is destructive and not at all good for nation development.

Khera says:

Avoid miscommunication. The price you pay for it is horrendous.

Ego can destroy team work/effort.

Set your goal. It helps you know where you are heading.

Have a vision. It is the ability to see the invisible. If you can see the invisible, you can achieve the impossible.

Credibility and integrity are vital. Organisations with credibility make higher profits.

It is better to be honourable than be honoured.

Don’t quit. Don’t give up.
