Students in Bangalore who wish to pursue higher studies have numerous colleges to choose from. There are a set of factors that guide the decision-making process. From rankings to faculty to placement record and even the accessibility of the college, everything matters.

While choosing my college I looked at two factors — accessibility and faculty. I don’t prefer to spend hours travelling every day just to attend college because it is really tiring to travel in heavy traffic. By the time you get back home, you would be exhausted. Another important matter that I looked into seriously when I joined here was the faculty. I strongly feel that only with a good faculty can one learn a lot. Faculty with doctorates will definitely be in a better position to elucidate many things and guide us on the right path. Also, I don’t bother about the reputation of the college because I believe students make or mar it. With good infrastructure and due recognition, students can take a college to greater heights to earn reputation.

A good library is an inevitable part of a college and this is one of the factors I gave preference to. Infrastructure too plays an important part in attracting students from across the country. With good infrastructure and facilities one will be exposed to holistic learning, and it will definitely help to mould one’s character. Placement and safety are the other major factors. I hail from Kerala, and it is common among parents to feel unsafe while sending their children to a new place for education or any other purpose, for that matter.

The first and foremost factor I was particular about while seeking admission to college was faculty. To acquire vast knowledge in my chosen field, the lecturers/professors play a significant role. They should be efficient enough to communicate their lessons. As a medical student, I also looked for colleges that have hospitals or clinics on campus. Other factors include reputation of the college and safety of students. Reputation of the college holds a great deal when you pursue postgraduation and seek a job. This is because of the high competition in the field; one recognises you by the reputation of your college. Safety also matters to a great extent.

The rank achieved by the college since its establishment and placements offered are the factors that I considered when I chose the college. I think if there is a good placement committee in the college, it’s a blessing for the students. Safety is one of the most important issues I considered while choosing a college in Bangalore. Since I have got my family here, I feel that to a great extent, it is taken care of.
