Report on venture capital and private equity

The fifth Annual India Venture Capital and Private Equity Report is being released on November 7 at the IC &SR auditorium at IIT Madras. The theme for this year’s report is Social Venture Investments. The report findings present insights on venture funding for social enterprises. The programme is scheduled to begin at 4.30 p.m. Prof. Bhaskar Ramamurthy, Director, IIT Madras, will preside.

Conference on advanced computing

Hindustan University hosted the 19th edition of international conference on Advanced Computing and Communications (ADCOM 2013) from October 21-25. ADCOM is an annual event of Advanced Computing and Communications Society (ACCS) held in partnership with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), U.S. At the conference, the ACCS-CDAC award 2013 was conferred on Prof Jayant R. Haritsa, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, for his contribution towards the design of next generation database engines.

Meet on Climate Change

IIT Madras, IIT Delhi, IISc Bangalore and Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) co-organised the Fourth National Research Conference on Climate Change at IIT Madras from Oct. 26-27. Sudhir Chella Rajan, Professor and Head, Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT Madras, Bhaskar Ramamurthy, Director, IIT Madras, M. S. Swaminathan, founder and Chairman, M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation and Chandra Bhushan, Deputy Director General, CSE spoke during the introductory session. Papers were presented on topics such as “Climate Change Mitigation” and Renewable Energy”.

At the event, CSE launched its “Climate Talkies” exhibition. Climate Talkies tracks the journey of climate change negotiations since 1992 through a humorous and satirical depiction of key climate meets with movies as references.

XLRI summer internship

XLRI placed its largest ever first year batch in a record time of three-and-a-half days. 105 companies participated in the process and made 336 offers to 303 students. The top five recruiters on campus were Vodafone, Microsoft, ITC, TAS and Standard Chartered. While it continued to remain one of the top notch destinations for talent in human resources and marketing, the number of offers made in finance saw a steep rise with 33 per cent of the business management students getting offers in this domain.

Skills training workshop

Entrepreneurship development cell students of CTTE College for Women underwent a five-day skill training workshop on simple household chemicals conducted by KVIC. Members of ED cell learnt preparation of candles, agarbatti, detergent powder, liquid soap oil, vessel cleaning powder, and so on.

Calling creative professionals

Shasun School of Liberal Education for Women in association with Behance, an Adobe company, will be organising a portfolio review workshop for creative professionals in Chennai on November 9 from 10 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. at the college premises. The panellists who will review the portfolio include Kiran, Art Director, Tamil Film Industry, Sindhuja, CEO, Seppan Pvt Ltd, and Praveen Chrisspug, Founder and Creative Director, Ideaheavens. XLRI consulting conference in Mumbai

XLRI- Xavier School of Management is all set to host its 3rd Annual Consulting Conference — “INSIGHT 2013” in Mumbai on November 7.

The theme for this year is “Road map for Sustaining India's Growth,” where the discussion will be on the underlying issues of India’s struggles with fledgling growth, rising inflation and a widening current account deficit.

The keynote speakers at this year’s conference are Mr. Krishna Kumar Natarajan, MD and CEO Mindtree and Chairman, NASSCOM and Mr. Sanjiv Bhasin, CEO, DBS Bank. Conceptualised by the Consulting Club of XLRI (CRUX), the conference will also host the finals of ‘DRISHTIKON 2013’, XLRI’s annual paper presentation competition which has regularly seen participation from top business schools in India. The winners of the competition are to win attractive prize money and a chance to interact with leading business leaders.
