Rotaract Club of St. Ann’s College, in collaboration with Rotaract Dist 3150, organised one-day “Leadership Conclave-2013” on December 14 on the college premises. The conclave is an annual flagship programme of Rotaract South Asia MDIO, which gives Rotaractors and students an opportunity to interact with eminent leaders of corporate, industry and society, the club coordinator Jyothi said.
The conclave brings together the professionals at the leading edge of industry, policy and academics through focused and interactive debates. The theme for this year’s conclave was “Leading through Innovation”, and over 150 delegates participated in the event from various Rotaract clubs.
The conclave was inaugurated by K. Anthony Mary, Principal of St. Ann’s College for Women who was also a guest of honour. She emphasised the role of educational system in moulding students to be good leaders by sensitising them towards the needs of society. Representatives from various corporate bodies too attended the conclave.
Alumni meet
The Association of Badruka Alumni, the body representing former students of Badruka College of Commerce and Arts, held a Special Alumni Meet of 2000 to 2013 passed out students at its Kachiguda campus last week.
A decision of creating a special fund for the benefit of poor students was taken at the meeting.
Former students of the college like Company Secretary examination topper Abhinav Kumar, medal winning yoga practitioner Sandeep and young company secretary Suman Bung were felicitated during the function. Various cultural programmes were presented by the present and former students entertained the participants.
Hari Prasad G. Badruka, chairman of Badruka Educational Institutions, president Dushyanth Reddy, general secretary Rajesh Agarwal, and other core committee members participated in the event.
Seminar on banking
The M.B.A. Department at JB Institute of Engineering and Technology (JBIET) conducted a day-long seminar on “Strategies for Sustainability in Banking and Insurance Sectors” last week.
The seminar was organised to create awareness among students, academicians and professionals to encourage participation, and promote research in the field, a press release said.
Professionals from banking and insurance sectors including RBI Deputy General Manager Rakesh Kumar Rajput, IRDA member M. Rama Prasad, NIRD professor Bijay Kumar Swain and editor of IRDA Journal U. Jawaharlal participated in the seminar and shared their insights with the students and academics.
The event was coordinated by MBA Department head P. Kameshwari.
Endowment lecture
Former State Special Chief Secretary V.K. Srinivasan delivered the Y. Papiah S.J. Memorial Endowment Lecture on the ‘Changing Roles of Government and Management’ in the present scenario’.
The lecture was organised by Vignana Jyothi Institute of Management to remember the services of Late Rev. Fr. Y. Papiah in the field of education, a press release said.
Mr. Srinivasan said that Constitutional democracies like India, have for long been accustomed to a balanced inter-play between Legislature, Executive and Judiciary, but this balance seems to have been affected recently, owing to charges of policy paralysis, political corruption, popular discontent and judicial overreach.
Vignana Jyothi chief patron Narne Prabhakar, joint secretary K. Harishchandra Prasad, chief administrator Prof. J.M. Naidu, adviser C.V. Rao and director Kamal Ghosh Ray also attended.
Silver Jubilee celebrations
The Department of Psychology, St. Anns College, as a part of its silver jubilee celebrations, hosted hypnotist and a psychoanalyst V. Nagesh last week.
Dr. Nagesh, who holds Limca Record for 36-hour non-stop demonstration of hypnotism, addressed 400 students of which 50 students volunteered to be part of practical demonstration during the event.
Awareness on voting right
A programme was conducted under the National Service Scheme (NSS) by J.B.R. Educational Society (JBREC) here on December 12 to create awareness among young generation.
Dr. J.A.Chowdary, former advisor IT, Government of Andhra Pradesh, advised students on the importance of voting and asked them to register themselves as voters to elect good leaders.
He added that an all-round development of the State and the country can be achieved by attracting foreign direct investment and creating jobs. By 2020-2025, 80 per cent of the jobs will be virtualised, he mentioned.
Workshop on ethical hacking
Vignan Institute of Science and Technology conducted a national workshop on “loophole ethical hacking” to create awareness on ethical hacking.
Dr. Prem Chand, UGC member gave a demonstration on ethical hacking that helped individuals understand the right way of ethical hacking and the intricacies involved in it.
Kamakshi Prasad, from JNTU Hyderabad answered the queries of all the participants with regard to hacking and the risks involved in it.
He said India was way behind in ethical hacking while other countries were using this to protect their information on the web.
Participants felt that ethical hacking was opening up as an employment source and a career choice. More than 70 members participated in it.
Contest for undergraduates
Dhruva College of Management, Hyderabad is organising ‘Muqabla’ -- an all-India undergraduate students’ meet -- on December 21 on its campus in Medchal with an objective of stimulating right brain through music, dance, singing, rangoli, elocution to name a few.
The All India “Best U.G student award” carriers a prize money of Rs.25,000.
Winners of other competitions will be awarded a cash prize of Rs.5,000 each. The college which gets maximum number of prizes will take away a cash prize of Rs 10,000, a Rolling Trophy and a citation.

Convocation ceremony
The sixth convocation ceremony of the ICBM – School of Business Excellence for its PGDM 2011 – 13 batch was held in Hyderabad last week. Harshvendra Soin, president of NHRD and vice-president (Talent Acquisition) of Tech Mahindra were the chief guests, a press release said. Mr. Soni apprised the graduating students about the complexity of the job markets and advised them to be ready for the volatile and ambitious world with the help of better education.
About 150 students received their PG Diploma in Management Studies Rank-holders received awards.
K. Satyanaryana, president emeritus NHRD, Prasaananatha Rao, vice-president Tata Chemicals Limited and Prof. Vidhyadhara Reddy of Osmania University were guests of honour.
