The FIITJEE Talent Reward Exam (FTRE) 2014 was organised by FIITJEE in collaboration with media partner The Hindu Education Plus on December 28, 2014. The exam was conducted at around 255 centres across India, including several in Chennai. According to the organisers, around 9,500 students appeared for the exam in the city.

B. Pavan Kumar, Deputy Head, FIITJEE Chennai Centres, said the exam served as a good platform to filter talent, analyse the aptitude of the candidates and guide them accordingly.

“We will evaluate the performance of students based on various indices such as their success, rank and career potential. As soon as the results are declared, special counselling sessions will be held with parents and they will be apprised of their child’s performance and abilities,” he said. The performance of students in the exam will also determine their selection into the integrated and non-integrated programmes of FIITJEE, informed R. Rajan, student mentor and regional manager, FIITJEE Regional Office, Chennai.

The exam was conducted in one session for classes V, VI and VII and in two sessions for classes VIII, IX, X and XI. While the first paper was found to be easy by most students, the second paper was found to be challenging.

“Even though there were only 63 questions in the second paper as compared to 90 in the first, I found the second paper tougher. This is because the first paper dealt with IQ testing and the questions were direct. The second one involved a lot of comprehension and tested the logical thinking capacity of students,” said Lohith Jayakumar, a student of Class X, Doveton Boys’ Higher Secondary School. The negative marking scheme also posed a challenge for students.

“Besides testing knowledge, the exam tests one’s mental calmness while solving challenging questions within a given timeframe,” said Aishwarya Mukherjee, a student of Class X, Chinmaya Vidyalaya.

The candidates included both first-timers as well as current students of FIITJEE who have been taking the FTRE exam each year in order to gain sufficient practice and exposure. Parents expressed confidence in the FTRE’s ability to create a good competitive base and provide a good preparation ground for taking exams such as the IIT-JEE in future.

The results of the exam for classes X, VIII, XI and IX will be announced on January 8, 10, 12 and 14, respectively. The results of classes V, VI and VII will be announced on January 16.

The results can be checked at www.fiitjee-ftre.com and www.fiitjee.com.
