The Karnataka State Women’s University of Bijapur has prepared a broad plan for giving impetus to research activities, skill development and improving infrastructure for the students here.
To meet this ambitious target, it has prepared and submitted a Rs. 27 crore project to the Union Government for getting its approval under Rashtriya Uchcha Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), the scheme sponsored by the Union Government to improving quality in higher education.
The proposal aims at adding more facilities for the research students. “Research and development are the key areas of any university where the students not only work on new ideas but also pass on that critical information to others. Our University wishes to given more emphasis to research oriented activities. The proposal, if approved, would enable us to meet this objective. This would directly enhance the teaching-learning process,” said Meena Chandavarkar, Vice-Chancellor.
According to Prof. Chandavarkar, since the number of research students is increasing every year, it is proposed to build a separate hostel for them.
She said that the same funds would be used for improving infrastructure in various fields including sports by building state-of-the art stadiums for games such as hockey and football.
Skill development is another area that the University has set its eyes on which Prof. Chandavarkar believes is important in building strong and sustainable careers of the students.
“Mere academic activities are not enough for the students to establish themselves in the competitive world as they need skills to give a sturdy backup. The proposal submitted by us cares to set up skill development centres for the students,” she said.
She expressed confidence that the Government would approve the proposal and grant the amount sought.
New coursesProf. Chandavarkar said that the University, in a bid to promote Music and Dance among the female students, is opening two new courses: M.A. in Music and M.A. in Dance under the Department of Performing Arts.
Asserting that Bijapur, with its numerous historical monuments, has enormous potential for improving the tourism sector, the University has decided to commence a diploma course in Tourism here.
Course in motherhood“We also have decided to start a diploma course in Ideal Motherhood, focusing on giving ideas on how to become good mothers. Since ours is the lone Women’s University in the State, we must also launch an unique course for the female fraternity,” Prof. Chandavarkar added.
