IIT-M and Oz univ sign MoU

IIT-Madras on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Deakin University, Australia.

The MoU will help the two institutions further their collaboration in the areas of materials and mechanical engineering. Bhaskar Ramamurthi, director, IIT-M and Jane den Hollander, vice-chancellor and president of Deakin University, were the signatories. Ms. Hollander said this agreement was to formalise their association of the past three years

Under the agreement, five students from each institution will be enrolled in a joint PhD supervision program and all 10 students will be based at IIT-M. Students enrolled with Deakin will be eligible for a fee waiver, the opportunity to study in Australia for three to six months, and financial assistance with international conference presentations. Those enrolled with IIT-M will receive scholarships and benefits to be determined by the institution.

Prof. Ramamurthi said the institution was looking forward to a productive collaboration between the faculties of the two universities with a vibrant student exchange programme at all levels , particularly with research scholars.
