SRM

For the rest of the world, the New Year ushers in with the promise of a new beginning, a clean slate and enthusiastic resolutions. However, in SRM University, a new year means a new edition of its national-level cultural fest, Milan. The Hindu is the title sponsor of the fest this year.

This year, with its eighth edition, Milan ‘15 endeavours to achieve greater heights, foster a creative spirit, promote talent and possibly break a Guinness World Record or two in the process. This event started on January 28 and spans across five days till February 1, 2015. This time the objective is to conduct a very special 100 unceasing hours of entertainment.

There are more than 100 events conducted over the 100 hours. There is also a National Level Gaming Championship and National Level Aero-Modelling Championship along with an International Air Show.

Day One of the fest commenced with the inaugural function which was succeeded by a night suffused with music and a brew of cultures. The pro shows planned for the day included — performances by the popular South Korean all boys K-pop band, N-Sonic, the SRM Music club and Between Recess under Coke Studio.

N-Sonic, the band of six boys — J. Heart, Sihoo, Byeol, Minkee, Black J. and Zion — with their tremendous talent and unwavering energy, evoked vociferous applause from the crowd, broke language barriers and won over several hearts all in the matter of an hour.

Their upbeat music and synchronised dance moves had everybody tapping their feet and pumping their fists. An array of events is set to take place over the next few days.

Battle of bands

Battle of the Bands is a contest in which two or more bands compete for the title of the “best band”.

The winner is determined by the general response of the audience or the band which brings the most people to support them. Traditionally, battles of bands are held at live music events and forums.

Air Show

An air show (also air show, Air Fair, or Air Tattoo) is a public event where aviators display their flying skills and the capabilities of their aircraft to spectators, usually by means of aerobatics.

Air shows without aerobatic displays, having only aircraft displayed parked on the ground, are called “static air shows”.

Campus Warrior

Universities are institutions that cater to massive amounts of students: lecture halls outfitted for hundreds, cafeterias built like conveyor belts, and a seat for everyone as far as you can look. But where do you go when you’re in need of personal space in such places? Here is where you get your shut-eye, a quiet place to study, a cafeteria with elbow room, and a restroom where you’ll breathe easy.

Tiny Fingers Pro Show

Tiny Fingers combine post-rock, live electronics, psychedelic and groove, forming a powerful, super-intensive musical mix.

With broken beats, unique guitar playing, fat bass and fresh synthesised sounds, the fingers integrate the messy intensity of rock music with the ecstasy of electronic raves, creating a thick, unrelenting sound trip. An emerging festival favourite, both in their home base of Israel and abroad, their live act is a mind blowing experience of futuristic sounds and visuals, leaving the sweaty fans begging for more.

Choreonite

Dance is the hidden language of the soul. Watch as every team lets their story unfold on stage to the beats. The biggest cultural fest of south India brings to you the ultimate war of dance on the very first day itself. Every team puts in all for the title as they perform on stage. So join the night, feel the waves of energy and ecstasy as dance comes alive like never before.

Professional Dance Battle

The show diverges from standard dance competition shows in that the choreographers participating are as much contestants as the dancers. A season begins with an audition phase during which choreographers pick and vie with one another for dancers from a common talent pool in order to form teams with which they will tackle routines from different dance genres, including hip-hop, modern, ballet, ballroom, and jazz.

February 1

A few famous American folk dances include contra dancing, square dancing and clogging.
