Award: H. Maheshappa, Vice-Chancellor of Visvesvaraya Technological University, has been honoured with an award for his “outstanding contribution” to education at the 7th DNA & Stars of the Industry group’s Innovative B-School awards ceremony held at Taj Land’s End Hotel in Mumbai on February 18.

The award was given for the second time in recognition of his leadership development, innovation and industry interface. Thanking the group for the honour, Prof. Maheshappa remarked that the key to success was how people from across the globe learnt from each other and shared creative energy and engaged in collaborative efforts irrespective of national boundaries, according to a VTU press release.

Convention: The Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology, in coordination with the Dept. of Dental Education of KLE Vishwanath Katti Institute of Dental Sciences, conducted the 18th Scientific Convention on the theme “Colloquium on Advances in Dentistry” for two days on February 19 and 20. Kamarudin Jaalam, Deputy Dean of KLE USM Medical School, delivered the guest lecture on the topic “Undergraduate, postgraduate training in Malaysia — present scope & future prospects” and Sreenivas Prasad, Principal of B.M.K. Ayurvedic College, Belagavi, spoke on “Scope of Ayurvedic Research in Dentistry”.

Around 250 participants attended the convention. Postgraduates along with interns and undergraduates gave paper and poster presentations. Institute principal Alka Kale and convention chairperson Anjana Bagewadi also spoke. The institute’s college biannual bulletin “Perceptions” was released on the occasion.
