Placements in the Delhi Technological University broke their highest record yet, when a student bagged a job offer of Rs. 93 lakh per annum. During this placement season, which started on August 1, so far about 40 recruiters have offered up to 265 jobs.

Google, USA made the offer of Rs. 93 lakh per annum (which includes about 125 Google stock units) to Computer Engineering student Himanshu Jindal. “I owe my thanks to my parents, faculty members and, of course, the Vice-Chancellor Prof. P.B. Sharma. I am feeling very happy that I will get to work in a world renowned company. All this is possible because of my hard work and the blessings of my parents,” said Himanshu.

The second highest pay package was of Rs. 70 lakhs and it has been offered to not one but about 11 students by EPIC, a US- based software company.

Other offers include a Rs. 28 lakh pay package from Goldman Sachs and a pay package of Rs. 19 lakhs that was made to eight students by Amazon. “DTU’s undergraduate and research programmes are of high relevance and great value to the industries,” said Prof. Sharma.

The university said a major highlight of this year’s placement was that the leading companies, besides making job offers to final year students, were also offering paid internship to third year students. This, said the university, might assure even better pre-placement job offers.

This refers to the news item that DTU student Himanshu Jindal bags 93 lakhs per annum job in Google. The amount works out to $150,000 and it includes the share value of 125 Google shares which is presently at $112,000. Thus the real annual pay is only $38,000 (INR 23 lakhs) which no doubt is a very good salary for a fresher in India but certainly not for a US position. Not sure how the notional share value which was almost 75% of the total amount was considered in the computation of per annum value. Himanshu should be careful to ascertain all the other conditions of the employment offer and also the share lock-in-period, otherwise till such time the share value would only be on paper. Students should not fall prey to false propaganda by these multinational companies and ensure all aspects.

Congrats!! and by the way, for a fresher, $150,000 is not an average salary by american standards also. It's something to be proud of.

congratulations Himanshu, I am not against joining Google or going to
the US in fact if i was offered the same i would have readily gone there
but this is contributing to the age old phenomenon of brain drain from
India where in the raw talent is not utilized by India as it should be.
Students must be encouraged to join Indian organisations and the best
measure would be offering them good pay scales and working conditions at
par with international organisations. Students like Himanshu are assets
for the nation.

If he is working for US company then why you guys are feeling so proud. If he works for our country then we have to be proud.Consider only what he done to our country and not what he achieved.

@shreyas,

Did you means 93 lakhs is normal. So you will not congratulate anyone, hmm. Is this very easy as for Indian. If yes, then count how many selected !

Congratulation to Himanshu, You do a nice work. Hope you will also benefit your country in future as you do for Google.

Congrats to Himanshu. Truely a magnificent reward for his merit. In case
job offered by Google is for work out of India with salary and perks in
foreign currency, it gives a lopsided impression of the quantum of
salary etc reported in Indian Rupees as a news item. Salaries overseas
are commensurate to the cost of living overseas and the prevailing
compensation package and if converted into Indian Rupees in reporting in
India, the figure is naturally compared with Indian salaries and appears
disproportionately large.

Criticizers, please be rational. This is a good job offer by Indian standards and by American standards. In dollars, the salary will be about $150,000 pa. It is above average for a graduate from a non-American Technical University NOT a regular University. $150,000 is what PhDs in a good disciple from an American University will be paid.

Congratulations to him, but others including media should not get
carried away with this as this is going to be an onsite (US) job, where
93 lakhs is normal average pay as per US standard

I congratulate the boy for this. But I would like say that if the offer
is for working at USA then salary converted into dollar per month would come to about $100.If the posting is California where the tax is around 30% at minimum. Then the balance available would be around $900. for sustaining there. Will DTU clarify where his job is?
