The Kerala University Syndicate, which met here on Saturday, decided to extract a fine of Rs.1 lakh from S.N. College, Chempazhanthi, apart from debarring an Associate Professor for five years from examination duties and 29 students for one year on charges of examination malpractice.
The malpractice came to light during valuation of the papers of the sixth semester BA examination held earlier this year and on further investigation, it was found that 29 students were involved.
The examination chairman, Sreekumar, an Associate Professor at M.G. College here was debarred for five years from examination duties for his ‘failure to prevent’ the malpractice while A. Padminikutty, Assistant Professor of the same college, was lauded by the Syndicate for her ‘honest and efficient’ valuation of answer papers.
Other decisions
The Syndicate also decided to continue with the mid-summer vacation as per recommendations of the Hridayakumari Committee and also to fix grades after evaluation of marks for examinations.
The Syndicate also decided to make online the conduct of examinations of the university, starting with the first-year engineering examination this year.
Jobs for retired staff
Retired university employees would be recruited on contract basis in university centres and examination camps outside Thiruvananthapuram, where permanent employees were not available. Temporary data entry operators, who had completed four years, would be re-appointed in a phased manner in various batches after giving them a two-month service break. Physically challenged employees would be exempted from this service break, an official release said.
