December 22, 2014 12:32 pm | Updated 12:32 pm IST - Bhubaneswar

Considering the importance of the ancient language, the Central University of Orissa, Koraput, is all set to launch a new post graduate course in Sanskrit from the next academic session.

The decision was taken in the meeting of the Executive Council of the University held under the chairmanship of Vice—Chancellor Prof Mohammad Miyan, a university release said on Monday.

Even when other languages were taking shape, Sanskrit continued to be the vehicle of creative and all other scholarly work, it said.

“Sanskrit, which is a part of our cultural heritage, needs to be given importance in any educational institution.

So the university is launching the programme from the next academic session,” the release said.

Initially the university would begin with two year MA programme and later it would start research programmes in Sanskrit, it said.
