Nostalgia in the air

International School of Management School (ISME) welcomed back its ex-students at the recently held annual alumni meet. Memories were exchanged and the sense of belongingness was displayed among the crowd. The joy of meeting their mentors, faculty and their old friends was the order of the day. The warm feeling of coming back to their alma mater was evident when they walked past the classrooms and the corridors. They scribbled graffiti which captured the emotions and nostalgia of the crowd.

Graduation

Jyoti Nivas College (Autonomous) held its fifth annual convocation for its batch of graduates from 2012. A. H. Rajasab, Vice-Chancellor of Tumkur University, and R.K. Somashekar, Registrar (Evaluation) of Bangalore University, were the guests of honour.

In her speech, Principal of Jyoti Nivas College, Dr. Sr. Elizabeth, talked about the need for the students to act as ambassadors of the college and work for the society and their people, especially the marginalised. She advised them to embark on new adventures and be an example to all. She also mentioned the need for youth who can stand for truth and usher in an era of justice especially at a time where corruption has entered all areas of society.

The rank holders belonging to various undergraduate and postgraduate courses were felicitated.

Dr. Rajasab spoke about the impact of education on one’s life and also emphasised the need for educational institutions to preserve and enhance their good qualities while reforming their questionable practices, if any.

He asked the students to question the quality and inclusive philosophy of education in many Indian universities.

Markopolis 2013

The finals of Markopolis 2013, an all-India marketing event, was organised at NMIMS Bangalore recently. The final round consisted of a sales and distribution case analysis presentation. The Trichy Tricycles team from IIM Tiruchi emerged as the winner while The Conjuring team from NMIMS Bangalore bagged the second spot.

The other participants in the finals were the teams from ISB Hyderabad and NMIMS Mumbai. O

ver 900 participants from top B-schools participated in the event with the top six teams competing in the finals.

Abhivyakti 2013

The MCA Department of BMS College of Engineering organised a two-day intercollegiate technical fest ‘Abhivyakti 2013’. Over 400 students from 30 colleges participated in it.

The event was inaugurated by the chief guest Giridhara Madakashira, Principal Architect, Wipro Technologies.

The department magazine “Stride” was also released during the inaugural ceremony.

The inauguration was followed by a presentation on employment ad re-engineering processes.

Awareness campaign

An awareness campaign to celebrate an eco-friendly Deepavali was held by the students, scholars and staff of the Department of Environmental Science, Bangalore University. B. Thimme Gowda, Vice-Chancellor, and K.K. Seethamma, Registrar (Administration), launched the programme by lighting the lamp, after which the students distributed pamphlets and created awareness about the ill-effects of burning crackers.

Achievers’ Day

When it comes to sports, the southern States are less encouraging when compared to the northern States. State Governments should introduce a separate sports policy to resolve the constraints in this field, said Padmashree awardee and international paralympic sports achiever H.N. Girisha, speaking during the Achiever’s Day celebration organised by the Visvesvaraya Technological University at its Bangalore regional centre.

He was also felicitated on the occasion.

International kabaddi player and Arjuna awardee Honnappa Gowda said it was a tragedy that the State Government did not form a policy dedicated to sports. He also requested parents to identify and encourage the love and talent of their children in sports at a young age and nourish them to make great sportspersons in the future.

Ten engineering colleges were awarded the institutional cash award of Rs. 1 lakh each and 69 students from various colleges affiliated to VTU received cash awards and scholarships.
