Business quiz

Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Bangalore’s annual business quiz ILLUMINATIX 2013 concluded recently. An initiative of the institute’s PR Cell, the event saw over 400 teams from top colleges across the country participating. The teams that emerged at the top were from Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Bangalore; T.A. Pai Management Institute, Manipal; Symbiosis Institute of International Business, Pune; NMIMS, Bangalore; and Xavier Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship, Bangalore.

HR Conference

The PGDM HR specialisation of L.N. Welingkar Institute of Management Development & Research, Bangalore, in collaboration with CII-Yi and Nàtional HRD Network, conducted its annual HR conference on the theme “HR: 2013 and Beyond” recently on the Institute’s campus at Electronics City Phase-I, Bangalore. The conference was inaugurated by WeSchool’s Director Anil Rao Paila. The keynote session on Strategic HR and Business Performance was delivered by Pratik Kumar, CEO, Wipro Infrastructure Engineering & Executive VP, Human Resources. The session analysed the role of HR as a business enabler and the impact it has on overall business performance and productivity.

Seminar

GITAM University’s Bengaluru School of Management Studies organised a seminar on HRD in Tourism Industry on the University premises recently. Shaji Thomas, Managing Director, Monsoon Express Tours Pvt. Ltd. and Director, Academy of Business Management, Tourism and Research, in his keynote address emphasised the need for developing tourism professionals to meet the growing needs of the industry. He urged MBA students to sharpen their skills to join the tourism industry, according to a press statement from the university.

Bizplan Contest

The second leg of the Bizplan Contest for the Bangalore preliminary round was held at Christ University with over 100 teams submitting plans for `Entreprenet 2014.’ The review committee shortlisted a total of 35 plans. Business Plans by three teams – Talk of the Town presented by Vijith Quadros, Floaster by Paritosh Mangal and Violet by Sachin Singh – were adjudged the top three for the semi-final round which will be held on December 7 at Christ University.

HR colloquium

A National Colloquium on HR- The Road Ahead was organised by Xavier Institute of Management & Entrepreneurship (XIME) and the Bangalore chapter of NHRD on September 28. J. Philip, President, XIME, and former Director, Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore, was the session chair during the inaugural. Prof. Philip emphasised the critical role HR plays in any organisation’s success.

Seminar

Bangalore University’s Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology, in association with British Council, Chennai, organised an Indo-U.K. Seminar on Opportunities in Biotechnology at the Jnana Jyothi Auditorium, Central College Campus, recently. Chairman, Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology, S.K. Sarangi; Co-convenor of the seminar, Sonu Hemanii; Director of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, A.N. Rai; Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University, B. Thimme Gowda; and Director of South India, British Council, Paul Sellers, were present at the inaugural function.
