GMAT Exam Pack launched

Candidates preparing for the GMAT exam with the GMATPrep software can now purchase two additional computer adaptive practice exams made up of retired GMAT questions. The “Exam Pack 1” was released recently by the Graduate Management Admission Council.

The Exam Pack 1 tests provide real-time scoring for the Quantitative, Verbal, and Integrated Reasoning sections, as well as essay prompts for the Analytical Writing Assessment. Exam Pack 1 can be purchased and downloaded from the mba.com/store for $ 39.99. Like the GMAT exam, each Exam Pack test comprises one 30-minute Analytical Writing Assessment prompt, 12 Integrated Reasoning questions, 37 Quantitative questions, and 41 Verbal questions.

A day at IIM-B

Students of Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore will celebrate Joy of Giving Week (JOGW), under the aegis of their social service initiative Vikasana. JOGW will be celebrated from October 2 to 8.

The flagship event of the week — One Day @ IIMB — gives an opportunity to people outside IIMB to experience a typical day on campus alongside resident students. One Day @ IIMB is a fund-raiser event, for which an online bidding system is in place.

MOOCs from University of Southampton

The University of Southampton has launched its first Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), which will enable anyone to study online, for free, from anywhere in the world. The first course is in the discipline of Web Science (www.southampton.ac.uk/webscience) and the course will start on November 11.

The MOOCs will last between six and eight weeks, each requiring two to three hours of study per week. Participants can either choose to complete the whole programme, or select to dip into particular topics of interest as and when time allows.

Women in Computing

The Anita Borg Institute, a non-profit organisation focused on the advancement of women in computer science and engineering, is calling for participation in its 4th Annual Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing India. The annual conference, presented by the Anita Borg Institute and the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM-India), will take place from November 13 to15 at the Lalit Ashok Hotel, Bangalore.

Participation submissions must explore various boundaries encountered in technology. The submission deadline for Session Tracks and Poster Abstracts is September 23.

KISACON 2013

Rajarajeswari Medical College and Hospital, Bangalore, with the Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists, Bangalore branch, recently hosted KISACON 2013. The sessions started on September 12 and the conference was inaugurated by S.K. Shiva Kumar, Director, ISRO Satellite Centre. A.C. Shanmugam, Chairman, Rajarajeswari Medical College and Hospital, Madhusudan Upadhyaya, President, ISA Karnataka, Prabhu Dev, former Vice-Chancellor, Bangalore University, Special Officer for the proposed deemed university, Rangalakshmi, Organising Secretary, and other dignitaries were present.

Conference

Bangalore University’s SC/ST Teachers Association is organising a two-day national conference on “The Practice of Social Justice and Higher Education in India”. Papers have been invited on various themes. Each presentation should not exceed 20 minutes. Theatre and folk performances will be staged as part of the seminar in the evenings.

The last date for submission of abstracts is September 25. Registration fee for the seminar is Rs. 750, for research scholars it is subsidised and has been fixed at Rs. 450.
