App contest

Wipro Ltd. has launched ‘Wipro App Life Contest 2013’, a six-month-long collaborative event for engineering and science graduates in India to develop their ‘dream app’. Online registrations for the contest opened on July 11 and will continue till December 20. The contest is open to all final and pre-final year students of Wipro-accredited engineering colleges across the country. Students can register online at www.wipro-campusarena.com/social-learning/index.html and download a software development kit necessary for them to participate and develop mobile applications for any smart phone and tablet.

Freshers’ day

Acharya Institutes recently celebrated Freshers’ Day. The event was chaired by Alfred Ilukena, permanent secretary, Ministry of Education, Republic of Namibia; John Nauta, Special Officer, Office of founding President, Republic of Namibia; Richard Freg, acting High Commissioner, High Commission of Republic of Namibia, New Delhi; and B. Premnath Reddy, Chairman, Acharya Institutes.

Varsity meet

A representative from Loughborough University, U.K., will be visiting Indus, The International School, and Greenwood schools in Bangalore on September 4 to meet students and answer their queries. Lisa Blenkinsop (Senior International Officer at the Loughborough University) will interact on a one-to-one basis with students and advice them on undergraduate and postgraduate course choices, application procedure and scholarship opportunities available at the University. Stanford MBA Fellowship

Reliance Industries Limited and Stanford Graduate School of Business have renewed the Stanford Reliance Dhirubhai MBA Fellowship Programme to support promising Indian students with financial need in obtaining an MBA at Stanford. The programme has produced 19 Indian MBA graduates since 2008.

Stanford GSB may annually award up to five Stanford Reliance Dhirubhai MBA Fellowships. Fellows will receive full tuition support for the two-year MBA Programme. Fellows must agree to return and work in India within two years of graduation. Applications for September 2014 scholarships have closed. Applications for 2015 will open in April 2014.

Prospective Fellows can visit www.gsb.stanford.edu/mba/reliance for details on the two-stage application process. In the first stage, applicants complete the application.

Fifty finalists will be selected by mid-July 2014 based on merit, commitment to developing India, and financial need, based on a review of each individual’s personal resources.

Inaugural function

REVA Institute of Technology and Management celebrated the inaugural function for the first year B.E classes on its Kattigenahalli campus recently.

Krishna Byre Gowda, Minister of State for Agriculture, was the chief guest. According to a release, he advised students to mould themselves with ethics, skills and the ability to eradicate evil forces of society and focus on the country’s rich culture, tradition and new technologies.

Luxury Business course

Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore has announced a three-day Executive Education Programme in Luxury Business.

Titled ‘Strategic Management of Luxury Business: Managing Luxury Products and Services – from Concept to Consumer’, the programme is targeted at entrepreneurs and CEOs of new luxury businesses, GMs/profit centre managers of international luxury businesses, designers looking to create luxury brands, managers of luxury franchise businesses, suppliers of products/services to international luxury businesses, marketing managers of luxury brands, and advertising agency executives of luxury brands.

The programme will take off on September 9 and will involve three days of classroom workshops, exposure to various case studies and work-based assessment.

IIMB faculty and senior industry practitioners will deliver the course.
