Chalo France

Eric Lavertu, Consul General of France in Bangalore, will inaugurate the French Scholarship award ceremony and the pre-departure session at the Alliance Française de Bangalore today. This programme is for students leaving for higher education in France for the academic year 2013-2014.

This year, the Embassy of France in India, along with its corporate partners, including Michelin India, will award scholarships worth Rs 7.1 crore (1.1 million Euros) to 235 Indian students.

Selected for their academic excellence, these students come from the best Indian universities/colleges and institutions, such as IIT Delhi, Madras, Kharagpur, Roorkee; IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta; National Law School of India-Bangalore; and Manipal University.

Big Idea Contest

V-Guard Industries has announced its annual contest — The Big Idea Business Plan contest 2013-Season 3. The contest is aimed at promoting the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurial skills among students from B-schools and B.Tech colleges. The contest requires the students to draw up a comprehensive business plan for V-Guard Industries. The teams have to submit their Big Idea detailing their innovative ideas, strategy, methodology to achieve their goal, covering areas like new product portfolio, new markets, new functional strategies for manufacturing/outsourcing, marketing, HR, supply chain management, customer service, etc.

The last date to register is August 7 and the registration fee is Rs. 1,000. Teams will have to submit their Executive Summary online by August 17. The best entry will win a prize of Rs. 1 lakh; the second gets Rs. 50,000; and the third, Rs. 25,000. There are also two special jury awards of Rs. 10,000 each.

CMAT in September

The CMAT exam 2014-15 conducted by the AICTE will be held in September 2013 and February 2014. The better of two scores will be used for admission for 2014-15. September CMAT registrations are on till August 21.

The test will be held between September 26 and 30 in two slots daily: 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. and 2.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. The results will be declared on October 20. The online admission test is scheduled to be held in more than 50 cities in India and five cities in foreign countries.

AICTE has decided to conduct CMAT in foreign countries for facilitating eligible NRIs/PIOs and foreign nationals seek admission in institutions in India. This will be under special provisions defined in the AICTE approval process and against all vacancies left after completion of centralised admission in management institutions.

MAAC-artoon

Maya Academy of Advanced Cinematics (MAAC), in association with Indian Institute of Cartoonists, is inviting participants for ‘MAAC–artoon 2013’, an art competition for all those in the 15-25 age group. Those interested can submit a copy of proof of eligibility and register themselves at any MAAC centre in Bangalore, Davangere and Hubli. The last date for submission of entries is August 10. The objective of the event is to provide a platform for talented youth to showcase their artistic skills and recognise their hidden potential.

For the contest, participants can create artworks based on the themes of corruption or match fixing and submit their entries at MAAC centres. Shortlisted candidates will qualify for the grand finale on August 24.

M.Sc Cosmetology course

Anoo’s International Beauty School invites applications for its M.Sc course in Cosmetology in collaboration with Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University. The curriculum is spread across two years over which students are taken through 2,500 hours of theory and practicals.

GRE Support Centre

The GRE programme has opened a new toll-free customer support centre in India to provide assistance and information for students registering, preparing for or planning to take the GRE® revised General Test or a GRE® Subject Test. Information about test preparation materials, test centres and dates, score reports and other test-related inquiries can be answered in English by call centre staff.

The new GRE Customer Support Centre is accessible by phone toll-free directly from India at 000-800-100-4072, Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition, test taker inquiries can be sent via email to GRESupport4India@ets.org.

Guest lecture

Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Bangalore, conducted a guest lecture by Greg Moran, Co-founder and CEO, Zoomcar, and David Back, Co-founder and President, Zoomcar. The event was attended by over 200 MBA students.

Campus show at T. John

T. John Group of Institutions hosted a Campus Show for final year engineering students recently. It was organised in association with Globals Research Innovation and Development to help students with their career and to display their innovation.

The Project Expo 2013 saw over 20 engineering colleges participating in the event including BMS College of Engineering, CMR Institute of Technology, PESCE Mandy, Coors Institute of Technology, Medicare, Sahara College of Engineering, Srinivasan Institute of Tech, St. Joseph’s College of Engineering, Mangalore, and Sridevi College of Engineering-Tumkur, amongst others.

Project Expo 2013 had the showcasing of projects categorised into three streams — IT, ME and Electrical — and the winners were chosen by experts from the college. These prizes were awarded on the basis of project innovation and bona fide contribution of the team by S.S. Prasad, CEO, GRID; Principal, T. John Institute of Technology; and Campus Director, T. John Group of Institutions.

Music contest

SPICMACAY is gearing up to organise a national competition of classical music ‘NAADBHED’ which, with the support of Doordarshan, will be broadcast across the country. Auditions will be conducted in Dharwad, Gulbarga, Mangalore and Bangalore (tentatively planned) on August 4, 11, 18, and 25 respectively.

There are six categories in which students can bag awards. The winner in each category will get Rs. 3 lakh as cash award. One mega winner in each form, Hindustani and Carnatic music, will win Rs. 10 lakh each.

LL.M. at Southampton

The University of Southampton Law School is inviting applications for its first year LL.M. in Finance Law programme, which is recognised by the Bar Council of India.

The Southampton Law School is also offering 30 per cent scholarships to suitably qualified Indian students on its postgraduate LL.M. programmes. Students applying for the programme are required to have a Bachelor’s degree in Law or the international equivalent, but account may also be taken of practical experience within the relevant field of study. English language requirements are at IELTS 7.0 with no less than 6.0 in any component. The annual fee for the programme is £13,500. The programme commences in September 2013 and the deadline to apply is August 15.
