Specialised communication

Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad (MICA) has started a specialisation in Digital Communications Management for its flagship two-year Post-Graduate Diploma in Management – Communications (PGDM-C) from this year. This was announced during the inauguration of MICA’s academic courses. MICA’s 20th batch of the course was inaugurated on the MICA campus in Shela, Ahmedabad. Bhaskar Das, Group CEO, Zee News Cluster and Digital Media, was the chief guest and keynote speaker at the inauguration ceremony.

Cloud 20/20 project contest

Registrations are now open for Cloud 20/20 Version 5.0, Unisys’ annual technical project contest. The contest requires participants to put theory into practice by working in teams of four, supported by two project guides, to showcase live cloud computing projects. Topics for this year include automation for cloud computing; application development for the cloud; security issues in the cloud; consumerisation of IT; big data in the cloud; and potential future technologies, open source technologies, and disruptive technologies. Registration for the contest closes on October 2, 2013.

Cloud 20/20 Version 5.0 will also include an additional contest for students who are part of the Unisys Innovation Labs (UIL) programme. These students have the opportunity to create demonstrable projects on Unisys technologies – the ClearPath ePortal mobile application development capability, and the model-driven, SOA-ready Business Information Server (BIS) and Agile Business (AB) Suite rapid application development environments.

Award for AISECT

AISECT, a skill development-based education network, has received an award for the best Class Learning & Development for the category ‘Best Learning Programme-Best Special Skills Training’ at the recently held World Human Resource Development Congress. AISECT has outshined 22 participants who were nominated for this category. The Best in Class Learning & Development Awards gives public recognition to achievements in learning, training and development to individuals as well as companies.

The Awards recognised and honoured the effectiveness, benefits and impact that learning technologies have made in a modern learning organisation.

EPlus Club inaugurated

The Hindu EduclationPlus’ EPlus Club was recently introduced to students of Jubilee College, Bangalore. EPlus Club activities of the current academic year were inaugurated by Peter George, President, Kerala Samajam, Dooravaniangar, and Vice-Chairman of Amphion Communications, India operations.

Thresia, Lecturer in English, presented a brief report of EPlus club activities. Jubilee College is located at Zinkthimmanahalli, near NRI Layout, T.C. Palya, P.O, Bangalore-560036.

Programmes in financial qualifications

Graduation day

Acharya Bangalore B-School (ABBS) organised its fourth graduation day for its MBA students on June 28. Ramesh L. Harve, Director of Organic Services and Solutions (India), Bangalore, and former president of the International Competence Centre for Organic Agriculture (ICCOA), delivered the graduation lecture and addressed the students on the importance of determination and commitment to be successful in this competitive world.

According to a release, the speaker urged management graduates to start MSMEs and become entrepreneurs.

Free business education

Regenesys Business School, a management and leadership higher education institution based in South Africa, is offering free business education from Certificate, Diploma, and Bachelor’s degree up to MBA level in India. They are accessible to anyone who has an interest in higher education.

The institution will make all learning material freely available online in its latest initiative.

National seminar

MVJ College of Engineering (MVJCE) organised a two-day national-level CSIR-sponsored workshop on “Problem Identification and Research Methodology” on the college campus recently. It was organised by the Department of Electronics and Communication and the Central Library of MVJCE. Students and researchers from many colleges across Bangalore participated.

The aim of the workshop was to give aspirants of Ph.D. who are in their initial stages of research an idea about formulation of a problem and a list of the methodologies to be practiced for a successful groundwork in research.

MSRIT golden jubilee

M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology recently celebrated its Golden Jubilee valedictory function. M.M. Pallam Raju, Union Human Resource Development Minister, Siddaramaiah, Chief Minister, and R.V. Deshpande, Minister for Higher Education, were present, along with M.R. Jayaram, Chairman, GEF.

According to a release, Mr. Jayaram said that the institute has given aid to Uttarkhand flood victims. “An amount of Rs. 1 crore has been collected for the purpose from the staff and management of M.S. Ramaiah Institutions,” he said.

Course on research and statistics

Gubbi Labs, as a part of its training programme, is conducting a series of short-term courses for students, researchers and professionals. The programme on Research and Statistics Essentials will be held from July 26 to 28 at the Gubbi Labs' Eco-station at Gubbi. The last date to apply online is July 15. The three-day programme is primarily for researchers who are pursuing their Master's or Doctoral degrees and professionals. The course is framed in a way as to guide both early career researchers and researchers submitting their thesis.

The first part of the programme deals with research essentials, and aims to enable participants with fundamentals of research and ways to go about carrying out independent research. It will go through aspects of defining the research; literature review; framing the objectives and questions; hypothesis testing, overview of statistical methods and analytical techniques; and conclude with writing and presentation skills.

The second part deals with statistics essentials, covering topics on nature of data and data types (parametrics and non-parametric); descriptive statistics (describing, exploring and comparing data, graphical representation); distributions; working with R software, inferential statistics; hypothesis testing (t-tests, F-test, etc.) and interpretation of statistical output.

The course will provide hands-on exposure to some of the tools like Freemind and Mendeley for research essentials and R for statistics essentials.
