The University of Sheffield (U.K.) is inviting applications for the M.Sc Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Management course. Students with a minimum of 60 per cent or first class from a reputable university will be considered. Students with IELTS score of 7 and TOEFL score of 95 will be given preference. However, applicants with IELTS 6.5, with at least 6 in each of the component tests or a TOEFL score of 91 (IBT) with at least 22 in reading, 23 in speaking and 21 in listening and writing will also be considered. The fee for the programme is £16, 750 and the University guarantees a scholarship worth £2,000. The programme commences in September 2013 and the deadline to apply is June 31. IIHS programme on GIS

Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS) is organising a short course on Geographical Information Systems (GIS) focusing on “Working with Digital Maps-Leveraging the power of GIS” between May 23 and 25. This course aims to equip the learners with essentials of mapping, offering insights and hands-on exposure to working with various free- and open source mapping applications. The participants will get the opportunity to use/develop mash-ups based on popular web-based GIS applications like Open Street Map, Google Maps, etc. The sessions will also acquaint the learners with essential hacks and work-around to present/source geospatial data online. Individuals with background in architecture, planning, engineering, economics, finance, sociology, anthropology, geography, political science, environmental sciences, social work and law and management will benefit from this course. UPSC rank-holder felicitated

The Bangalore University Department of Psychology felicitated Snehal, an alumnus of the department, for having secured 77 rank in the UPSC examination. B. Thimme Gowda, Vice-Chancellor, Bangalore University, presided over the function. K.K. Seethamma, Registrar, Bangalore University, was the guest of honour.

According to a release, Snehal said that her efforts and determination helped her secure a top rank. While thanking her parents and teachers for their encouragement and blessings, she motivated the young students to set a goal and struggle for its attainment. She also said that her ambition was not just to get through IAS or for any position or status but to serve the people by being a loyal government servant and implementing the plans and policies of the government.

MoU signed

Bangalore-based iNurture Education Solution, a provider of career-ready full-time degree and PG courses, announced 12 MoUs with Jain University, Bangalore. The business tie-up is based on the University-Industry Partnership (UIP) model. iNurture will play the role of a knowledge partner to deliver its futuristic full-time undergraduate (four) courses and postgraduate (seven) courses from the academic year 2013-14. These courses are designed in partnership with industry experts to fulfil the industry requirements with practical projects in organizations, market visits, etc for effective employability. All the courses are to be certified by Jain University and will have 100 per cent placement support, by virtue of the industry collaborations.

The courses offered are: B.Sc. Visual Effects; B.Sc. IT Infrastructure Management Services; B.Sc. Information Security Management Services; Bachelor of International Business & Finance (Specialisation Options – International Business and Financial Services); M.Sc. - Animation; M.Sc. IT Infrastructure Management Services; M.Sc. IIM-B business plan competition

The NS Raghavan Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning (NSRCEL) at the Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore (IIMB) will host the 2013 edition of Next Big Idea (NBI), a national business plan competition, between May 20 and 22 at IIMB.

NBI is sponsored and supported by the National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB) under the aegis of Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, and Intel India. The competition will be conducted in two rounds. The 32 teams that have been selected to participate in the pre-final will be shortlisted to 10 teams for the final. The top three teams will be identified at the end of the finals. The details of the first, second and third prize winners will be announced at a separate award function in June.

The top two entries of the competition get to participate in the Intel Global Challenge to be held at the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley.

The two teams will participate alongside participants from close to 30 countries. The cost of participating in the global challenge is borne by Intel and the Department of Science & Technology. Participants at the global challenge get an opportunity to present their ideas to highly successful entrepreneurs and investors in the U.S.

Adobe Creative Cloud

The full range of Adobe Creative Cloud options is now available in India, including the Creative Cloud Student Teacher Edition. For educational institutions, Creative Cloud for teams and Creative Cloud for enterprise options are now available through a new plan called Education Enterprise Agreement (EEA).

Adobe Creative Cloud is a subscription-based service that includes more than 30 tools and services enabling professional-grade content creation and delivery across print, web, mobile apps, video and photography. According to a release, Sunil P.P, Director-Education, South Asia, Adobe Systems, said, “Adobe has expanded the range of tools and services available for students and teachers. Creative Cloud Student Teacher Edition is available at special promotional pricing of Rs. 1,000 per month until June 25.”

Adobe has also announced a significant new licensing option for primary, secondary, and higher education institutions.

MSRIT student project

M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology, Bangalore, organised Yantrotsav-2013, a student project exhibition, on May 15. Over 50 projects executed by students were on display. The 12 best projects among them were selected from different streams such as production, thermal, CAD/CAM, and design.

This exhibition was organised as a part of a farewell and valedictory function inaugurated by Rathindranath Das, Addl. General Manager and Head, Ceramic Technological Institute, BHEL, Bangalore.

Avishkar

A two-day State-level management fest ‘AVISHKAR’ was hosted by RJS Institute of Management Studies recently. The fest opened with a motivational speech by Venugopal K., Principal, UVCE, Bangalore. There were participants from various B-schools over two days. The events included Ice Breaking, HR, Finance, Marketing, CSR, business quiz, cultural events and many more. According to a release, Prof. Keshava Reddy, chairman of RJSIMS, speaking at the valedictory function advised students to develop entrepreneurial and leadership qualities.

Jain University, Bangalore, was the overall champions of Avishkar 2013 followed by CMRIT College and Oxford College who also bagged trophies.
