Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School is known for imparting outstanding hospitality education. It is ranked as Asia Pacific’s number one hotel school (Taylor Nelson Sofres Survey 2010).
Its two campuses are situated in Leura (a picturesque town on the outskirts of Sydney) and Sydney CBD (Central Business District). The campuses provide excellent theoretical and practical knowledge and are home to nearly 500 students that join every term.
BMIHMS offers bachelor’s degrees in hospitality and event management and a master’s degree in hospitality as well.
This motivated me to enrol for a bachelor’s degree in international hotel and resort management and I flew down to Australia immediately after finishing school.
Presently in level three, I am studying in the Sydney campus and am the student ambassador.
I knew that college life was going to be tough but I was surely in for a surprise as I was made familiar to this university, where the faculty is so friendly and willing to assist you whenever you need them.
The campuses are a “home away from home” and make you feel independent.
The past two years were a combination of some intriguing subjects and six months each of two industry placements that are a part of my course. Every student can choose the brand they want to work with, nationally or internationally. I was fortunate enough to work with Hyatt and TOGA.
The school provides great educational and co-curricular activities and gave all of us the pleasure of attending career expos, seminars and various networking events that have proven to be beneficial.
The campus highly resembles a fully functioning hotel that follows the practice of “for the students-by the students”. This helps us understand what it is like to work in a hotel from an employee’s perspective and a customer’s perspective.
This way of learning makes it easy for students to adapt to the new environment.
Choosing Australia has been a fantastic decision as I feel that nothing can be compared to this campus in terms of opportunities to learn about many different cultures.
The work experience in Australia has made me self-sufficient. It did not take much time for me to adapt to the changes abroad. Australia is an amazing place to grow in and this university totally stands up to my expectations of a place that I would want to be associated with.
