There are opportunities at all levels for those who pursue the programmes. The India office for the TEFL programmes can be contacted at: 49/12B, Hindusthan Park, Kolkata-700029. Email: contact@teflcourse.in

The visa and immigration requirements will be based on the country that you opt for. Most countries have Embassies/High Commissions in New Delhi; and some even have Consulates in other metropolitan cities. Hence, based on jurisdiction, you will have to contact the mission and ensure eligibility criterion and apply for the visa. The missions have the final authority to provide for the visa as per eligibility.

I am pursuing my third year B.Sc in Agricultural Marketing. We are sure you have opted for the Agricultural Marketing programme with a specific reason and interest. On completion, if you are looking for opportunities in the area of Life Sciences and Food Technology, we are confident that you have analysed what the future will have in store for you. From the perspective of Food Technology, the two-year M.Sc (Food Technology) conducted by the Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) (www.cftri.com), Mysore, is the best option. The eligibility criteria is B.Sc in Science, Agriculture, Horticulture, Engineering, and Technology. The Institute has fixed minimum score requirements which are as follows:

55% in optional subjects of B.Sc Pass Course (50% for the reserved segments)

50% for B.Sc (Honors) programme (45% for the reserved segment)

For Agriculture, Horticulture, Engineering and Technology graduates a minimum second class is required to be eligible to be considered for the entrance test.

For the PG in Life Science area, viz., Zoology, the Bangalore University criterion is as follows as per the admission statutes: Candidates with B.Sc degree with Zoology as one of the optional subject with a minimum of 50% marks in the optional subject and minimum of 40% marks in aggregate.

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all-India examination that tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in Engineering and Science. The test is conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc.) and the IITs on behalf of the National Coordination Board, GATE, of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). The GATE scores are used for admissions to various PG programmes viz., Master of Engineering, Master of Technology, Ph.D. The GATE scores are also used by various public sector undertakings whilst recruiting graduate engineers for various positions in the organisations. Keeping the above parameters in mind, ensure that you select the right programme.

Institutions in the category of higher education which have excelled over a period of time and ensured a place for themselves in the academic world, have been granted the status of Deemed to be University under the University Grants Commission (UGC) (www.ugc.ac.in) Act of 1956. The status is granted by the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, on the advice of the UGC under Section 3 of the UGC Act of 1956; and once a declaration is made all the provisions of the UGC Act shall apply to the institution, as if it were a University within the meaning of clause (f) of Section 2 of the said Act.

The status is provided after UGC ascertains that all standards as set have been met. In some instances, the UGC will also support the Deemed to be Universities by funding them. Once granted the status of Deemed to be University, the institutions enjoy the opportunity to develop their own unique course structure/programmes. Hence, pursuing a programme/course from a Deemed to be University is recognised for admissions into other programmes and for jobs as well. Another autonomous body of the UGC, the National Accreditation and Assessment Council (NAAC) (1994) (www.naac.gov.in), provides the necessary accreditation of the Deemed to be Universities as well, which ensure quality of education imparted in the institutions.
