The National Law School of India University (NLSIU) (www.nls.ac.in) conducts the one-year Post-Graduate Diploma in Medical Law and Ethics (PGDMLE) under the Distance Education Programmes (DEP) scheme. It does not have any age barrier. My nephew is not good at studies. He has completed 10th Standard by attempting the examination thrice. We believe that NIOS is a good programme and hence would like him to pursue 12th Standard education. I want to know if NIOS is recognised for higher education.

The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) (www.nios.ac.in) conducts the 10th and Plus Two examinations and works under the Ministry of Human Resource Development. Its main goals are:
Universalisation of education
Greater equity and justice in society
Evolution of a learning society.
NIOS provides secondary, senior secondary and vocational education. Those who pass out of the NIOS stream will be considered for higher education, considering that the programmes are recognised by all government departments and various statutory bodies across the country.
You can browse the website of NIOS and identify the centre nearest to you and proceed with the admissions.
I completed B.Com in 2002 under the non-semester scheme. I started to initially work with a call centre and then moved into the business of finance and started working with a chartered accountant and a firm. My qualification is however still only B.Com. I have attended a few short-term programmes, but no one considers them as a qualification. Please guide me with regards to higher education. I do not mind pursuing programmes in regular or distance mode.

You have opportunities for pursuing a variety of education in the area of Commerce, Business Studies, Accounting and Financial Management.
