Alva’s College team won the first prize in a flood light kabaddi tournament for men organised by Omega Kabaddi Association in Hassan from March 27 to 29.

Musical nite: Popular playback singer of Bollywood Sunidhi Chauhan presented a two-hour programme on the campus of Mangalore Institute of Technology and Engineering (MITE), Moodbidri, at the prize distribution ceremony of the eighth edition of Sentia, an inter-collegiate cultural, technical and management festival. She sung the latest and popular Bollywood numbers. Winners of 65 competitions were presented prizes.

In the management category competitions, SDM College of Business Management, Mangaluru, bagged the overall championship. In the engineering stream, NMAMIT, Nitte bagged the championship. In a fashion show, NMAMIT, Nitte bagged the first prize of Rs. 50,000.

Annual day: MITE, Moodbidri, celebrated its annual day recently. Mahesh D.N., associate vice-president and practice head (banking & financial services), Span Infotech, Bengaluru, was the chief guest. He asked students to develop employability skills.

Rajesh Chouta, president, Rajalaxmi Education Trust, Mangaluru, presided. He asked students to be role models. G.L. Easwara Prasad, Principal, spoke.

Business plan competition: Srinivas Institute of Management Studies, Pandeshwar, Mangaluru, recently conducted entrepreneur’s premier league, a business plan competition for second year MBA students. 10 groups participated in it. An aptitude test was conducted to identify the entrepreneurial skills among students. In another competition students were asked to come out with business plans. They were judged based on innovation, project feasibility, and sustainability.

Autorickshaw drivers’ day: Besant Evening College, Mangaluru, along with its alumni association celebrated autorickshaw drivers’ day. In all, 45 autorickshaw drivers were felicitated. Montu Lobo, an 80-year-old driver, was honoured with the title Kudla Auto Raja. Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, was the guest. Udaya Nayak, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic), and Carmelita Goveas, Principal of the college, spoke. There was a cultural programme.

Graduation day: Sahyadri College of Nursing, Mangaluru, observed its graduation day recently. Petrick Rodrigues, Director, Father Muller Medical College Hospital, Mangaluru, was the chief guest. In all, 99 students received their graduation certificates. He asked the graduates to become good human beings. Irene Veigas, Principal of the college, spoke.

Workshop: Besant Evening College organised a workshop on ‘Inclusive practices, creating classroom experiences to enhance teaching-learning’ recently.

K. Sankaran, Director, K.S. Hegde Institute of Management, who inaugurated it said that teachers should motivate students to learn. Presiding over the function, Carmelita Goveas, Principal of the college, stressed on innovations in pedagogical aspects of curriculum.

Students’ festival: The valedictory of the students’ festival of PA College of Engineering, Mangaluru, was held recently. Ibrahim Kodijal, chairman, Mangaluru Urban Development Authority, was the guest. Prizes were distributed to winners of various competitions.

Human rights: Department of Mass Communication, St. Aloysius College, organised a seminar on human rights recently. K. Balakrishna Rai, founder president, Human Rights Federation of India, a non-government organisation, who inaugurated it highlighted the importance of human rights. He spoke on the role of media in highlighting human rights issues.
