IFIM Business School hosted its sixth international conference – Convergence — on its campus recently. The two-day meet on “Ethical leadership: the Indian way” saw prominent academicians, industry leaders, young professionals and media personalities on a common platform sharing and exchanging different ideas and perspectives on the subject matter.

C.K .Venkatraman, CEO, Jewellery division, Titan Companies, was the guest of honour. He gave examples of the initiatives taken up by the Titan Group for the empowerment of women and said ethical leadership should always be win-win situation.

Biocon event

Biocon Academy, a centre of excellence for advanced learning in applied bio-sciences, commenced the classes for the first batch of ‘Biocon KGI Certificate Programme in Biosciences’ – in collaboration with Keck Graduate Institute in Claremont, California.

The 16-week, full-time Biocon KGI certificate programme’s broad-based curriculum encompasses R&D, production as per GMP, quality assurance, regulatory, product development and professional skills.

Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Chairperson and Managing Director, Biocon, said, “This programme will provide a unique opportunity for life sciences students to take advantage of the world class advanced learning and training programme that straddles both theory and project-based learning. Biocon Academy aims to address the skill deficit and develop high-end talent that catapults the Indian biopharma sector to the next level of growth.”

Sports fest

Sindhi College, Kempapura, organised the ‘Sind Sports Fest’ for school and PU college students. Meghana Jagannath, international netball player and Ekalavya Award winner, inaugurated the fest. A tournament was conducted in various events – shuttle badminton, table tennis, carrom, and basketball. R. Gandhi, National Coach for Athletics, distributed certificates and gave away cash prizes to the winners in the presence of Prakash R. Narang, Chairman, Sindhi College; Aninash Kukreja, Secretary; Prakash B. Nayak, Principal; and Pallavi Vinod, Vice-Principal. Sri Sri Ravishankar Vidya Mandir School and Sindhi College won the overall championship trophies.

IIHS programme

The Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS) has announced a three-day programme on ‘Working with digital maps leveraging the power of GIS’. The course will be held on the IIHS City Campus, Sadashivnagar, Bangalore, from January 22 to 24.

The course aims to equip participants with knowledge and hands-on practice to work on GIS in data collection, creation, analysis and web presentation. The main purpose is to enhance the capabilities of participants to understand how GIS can help improve the organisation’s decision making ability by taking advantage of the geographic data.

The course is open to government technical teams working with urban local bodies, water supply and sewerage department, power and energy, municipalities, roads, property tax, census; professionals working on data analysis, professionals working with geospatial data willing to explore open source software and web application, and students of geography, urban planning, heritage and conservation, and other subjects.
