IT contest

HCL Learning’s Career Development Centre (CDC), the training and skill development division of HCL Infosystems Ltd., has announced a nationwide contest – “IT ke Superstars”, for college students and working professionals who are passionate about IT. The contest will be conducted in more than 25 cities. Interested applicants will have to register online on the official website www.hcllearning.com/cdc/itkesuperstars by paying a fee of Rs. 100 and take up an online exam as per their convenience from between August 12 and 31 at select HCL CDC centres in their locality.

The first level of online preliminary round will happen at the centre level. The shortlisted candidates will compete against the centre-level winners nationally. Based on the score and the scholarship slabs the students will be awarded scholarships and cash prizes. The winner gets Rs. 75,000, and the first and second runners-up, Rs.50,000 and Rs.25,000 respectively. All applicants will get a certificate of participation, receive career counselling by the CDC team and an opportunity to meet the Head of HCL Learning, Chetan Mahajan.

TCS IT Wiz

Over 1,200 students from various city schools participated in the TCS IT Wiz held at Chowdiah Memorial Hall, Vyalikaval, recently.

The regional finals of the Bangalore edition saw Harikiran and Siddarth Srivatsa of St. Paul’s English School winning the quiz and Balaji M.T. and Aniketh J. Reddy from Sri Kumaran Children’s Home coming second. The winners walked away with an iPad each while the runners-up won a Galaxy tablet each. The winning duo will represent Bangalore in the mega finals and will contest for the “Smart Tech Wizard 2013”

The prizes were distributed by Reeth Abraham, ace athlete and Arjuna Award recipient, along with N.G. Subramaniam, President, TCS Financial Solutions; and Nagaraj Ijari, Vice-President and Head, TCS-Bangalore Operations. E.S. Chakravarthy, Centre Head TCS Bangalore, graced the occasion.

Signum

The Commerce and Management Department of Jyoti Nivas College, Bangalore, recently head a week-long intra-collegiate Commerce Fest, Signum. The fest included various events such as Best Manager Senior, Fun in Junk, Finance and Moot Court.

Head Table

The third edition of Head Table, an interactive session with panellists including Biren Ghosh, Head, Technicolor India, Meeenakshi Bharath, civil society activist and doctor, Srikanth Nadamuni – CEO, Khosla Labs, Gauri Shinde, Director, and Nupur Basu, journalist, is inviting student-leaders from Bangalore to register for the event.

The theme for this year is “The future”. Students can raise questions on the future of technology, business, society and the arts. The event will be held at Baldwin’s Boys High School (at the Lincoln Hall) on August 24, 2013. For details visit: www.inexel.org/head_table.shtml

ICFAI, Virtusa sign MoU

Virtusa Corporation, a business consulting and IT outsourcing, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education, to engage in talent development programmes aimed at creating a pool of highly skilled Business Process Management (BPM) professionals trained on Pegasystems’ technology platform.

As part of the programme, Virtusa will provide BPM training to the faculty of science and technology at ICFAI University, while also collaborating on developing industry-oriented courseware and technical knowledge to support the curriculum. A dedicated elective course has been designed to teach these skills to interested students. Extending this initiative into the employment space, students who successfully complete this course will become eligible to apply to internship positions at Virtusa to hone their skills in a real-world, business environment.

Go-karting competition

Indian Society of New Era Engineers, in collaboration with MVJ College of Engineering, organised the National Go-Kart Championship – 2013. The pre-final round of the National Go-kart Championship 2013 was held on the MVJ College campus recently. The south zone competition saw teams from Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka colleges taking part. There were a total 36 teams and each team consisted of 4-5 members.

KSOU admissions

The Karnataka State Open University’s (KSOU) Women’s Regional Centre, located in Malleswaram, has begun admissions for its various courses (2013-14) starting from this month.

The Centre is offering nearly 400 courses. Courses include vocational, degree and postgraduate courses in both distance education and regular mode such as B.A., M.A, M.Com, B.Ed (General), B.Ed (Special Education), M.Ed, LL.M., BLISc, MLISc, MBA, M.Sc (Psychology) PG Diploma programmes and Certificate programmes.

Student council investiture

The student council of Goodwill Christian College for Women (GCCW) celebrated its investiture recently. The guest of honour was A.P.Porkodi, Principal, Bishop Cotton Women’s Christian Law College. According to a release, she spoke to students on the importance of leadership. Shobha Stephen, principal, administered the oath of office.

Anveshana 2013

The School of Commerce and Management Studies, Jain University, recently conducted ‘Anveshana 2013’, an intra-collegiate business fest for freshers. The events included Solo Dance, Marketing, Business Quiz, Mr. & Ms. Anveshana, Jain Idol, and Best Manager.

Literary festival

CMR National PU College organised Akshara - The Literary Quest recently. Students participated in various literary events including spin a yarn, poetry writing, cartooning, sketching, slogan writing, beat without repeat, street play, air crash and Triple Mesh comprising Spelling Bee, JAM, and dumb charades.

The activities were judged by the alumni. Prizes were distributed by Nandini Nagraj, principal, CMR National PU College.
