Toppers honoured
The first PU classes of PES PU College in Hanumanthanagar, Bangalore, and a programme to honour toppers were held recently. Swami Veereshananda Saraswathi, President, Ramakrishna-Vivekananda Ashrama, Tumkur, inaugurated the classes. Member of the Karnataka Legislative Council and Founder Chairman of PES Institutions, M.R. Doreswamy, presided over the function. The following toppers were felicitated: Harshitha V. Handrai (II PU Science – 96.66 per cent), Shalini Prasad S. and Vishnu Prasad C. (II PU Commerce – 97 each), Nikhil Srikar K.A. (I PU Science – 95) , and Keerthi K.S. (I PU Commerce – 96).
ACS annual day
ACS College of Engineering, Bangalore, held its fourth Annual Day and first farewell function for outgoing students recently. A.C. Shanmugam, Chairman, Rajarajeswari Group of Institutions- Bangalore, H. Maheshappa, Vice-Chancellor, Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum; R.M. Vasagam, former Vice-Chancellor, Anna University, Chennai; Shubha Poonja, cine artist; Murgesh Mudaliar, Rector, Rajarajeswari Group of Institutions; and M.R. Shivakumar, Principal of the college, were present.
The achievements of students and faculty of the college were presented during the event. According to a release, fifth semester aeronautical engineering students of the college secured 100 per cent results in the just concluded VTU engineering examinations. A fifth semester civil engineering student, Tejaswini, secured 100 per cent in structural analysis during the same examination, the release said.
Shubha Vidaaya-2013
Reva Institute of Technology and Management organised “Shubha Vidaaya-2013” (farewell function for graduating students) on the Reva ITM Campus, Kattigenahalli, Yelahanka, recently. R.V. Deshpande, Minister for Higher Education and Tourism, was the chief guest. According to a release, he urged institutions and universities to focus on quality education, and cultivate discipline among students, who are the brand ambassadors of our growing country. Institutions should also focus on new courses which in the present industry scenario are more useful to the younger generation.
Music Conservatory
A.R. Rahman’s music school, KM Music Conservatory, Chennai, has opened admissions for its full-time programmes. The school offers two programmes — the Foundation Programme and the Diploma Programme.
The Foundation Programme offers a Foundation Certificate in Music that is validated by Middlesex University, London, U.K. The course involves a one-year-long comprehensive training and the syllabus includes Western performance, Composition, Technology, Music Theory, Aural Skills, Music History, Hindustani Classical Music and Professional Musicians Skills. The Foundation programme requires very little prior musical training.
The Diploma Programme is a two-year course which is validated by Middlesex University. It offers the equivalent of the first two years of a U.K. Bachelor in Art degree and develops musicians with a holistic approach to the subject area. Students benefit from the experience of an international faculty in subjects including Performance, Composition, Music History, Music Theory, Audio Technologies, and Indian Classical Traditions.
On completion of the Diploma programme (Middlesex Track), students are guaranteed to be accepted in the third year of the B.A. Music Degree at Middlesex University. This one-year extension to the programme would convert the Diploma qualification into a full Bachelor’s degree.

Rhodes Scholarships
Applications are now open in India for the Rhodes Scholarships. They are post-graduate awards supporting outstanding all-round students, to enable two to three years, depending on the academic route taken, of study at the University of Oxford.
The Rhodes Scholarships aspire to create “leaders for the world's future” and are open to students with intellectual and academic attainment of a high standard who show exceptional character, leadership, achievement in extra-curricular activities and a commitment to service in the public good.
Each year, five Indian Scholars join 78 others from around the world at the University of Oxford. Applications for the 2014 edition are open to Indian citizens between the ages of 19 and 25 (as of October 1, 2014) who have received at least one first class degree from an Indian university. Students in their final year of college with exceptional academic background may also apply. This year's enrolment closes on July 31.

CUK courses
Applications are invited for admissions to the Central University of Karnataka’s M.Sc. Psychology, MSW and Ph.D. in Psychology and Social Work programmes offered from the School of Behavioural Sciences for the academic year 2013-14. A common entrance examination will be conducted across the country on July 13.
Students aged between 20- 24 years who have completed undergraduate education from a recognised Indian or foreign university (foreign recognition to be as per AIU list) in any discipline and secured a minimum of 50 per cent marks in aggregate and who have secured a minimum of 40 per cent marks in the entrance test conducted by the University are eligible for admissions to M.Sc Psychology and MSW courses. Preference would be given to those possessing BSW degree for admission to the MSW course.
For admission to the Ph.D. programme in Psychology and Social Work, students with M.Phil. or Master’s degree in Psychology / Social Work of the University or a degree recognised by the University for this purpose or its equivalent in the relevant or allied subject with at least 55 per cent marks and who have scored a minimum of 40 per cent marks in the entrance test to be conducted by the University are eligible.

Brush of Kindness
The students of Canadian International School, Bangalore, initiated a project “Brush of Kindness” in association with the NGO Habitat for Humanity. Students painted houses of families who earn less than Rs. 300 a day such as daily labourers, vegetable vendors and BBMP workers in Kottur village near Ramamurthy Nagar. The students also donated Rs. 50,000 towards this project. This money was raised by the students during another fund raiser "Walkathon” from the CIS Community.
Blood donation camp
The NSS unit of MVJ College of Engineering organised a blood donation programme on the college campus recently. It was supported by Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) and was held in association with Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS). The camp saw the active participation of over 275 donors, 25 NSS volunteers and students from MCA and MBA departments.

Award for IFIM
The Institute of Finance and International Management (IFIM) has been conferred the title of Best Business School of the Year by the Bangalore Management Association (BMA) on the occasion of BMA's 60th anniversary.
IFIM provides a two-year full-time Post-Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) and conducts short-term certificate programmes in 'Selling Strategies and Skills'. IFIM has included a four-and-a-half month Industry Internship Programme (IIP) in the PG curriculum which helps in building and exploring an individuals' talent in the corporate world and creates business-ready managers.
