The symposium on ‘Economic Growth and Inclusiveness’ being held at School of Management in Manipal.

Symposium: The Finance Forum of the School of Management, Manipal University, organised a symposium on ‘Economic Growth and Inclusiveness’ in Manipal on March 21.

Inaugurating the symposium, Charan Singh, RBI Chair, Professor of Economics, said that financial inclusion was a sure means to achieve economic growth. He explained the welfare orientation, growth orientation, policy orientation and the action orientation embedded in the Union Budget-2015.

Allen C.A. Pereira, former Chairman, Bank of Maharashtra, explained how banks could realise the objective of financial inclusion. K.V.M. Varambally, Director of the School, welcomed the gathering. Nandan Prabhu gave an overview of the symposium. Prakriti proposed a vote of thanks.

World Water Day: The SMV Institute of Technology and Management (SMVITM), in association with the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), organised a lecture on the occasion of World Water Day at Bantakal in Udupi district on March 23.

Lakshmikantha, Assistant Environmental Officer, KSPCB, Mangaluru, emphasised the importance of water conservation, role of soil and the impact of human activity on productivity of agriculture. He spoke about the precautions that could be taken to protect the soil and thereby enhance fresh water availability for the future.

Rajshekar Puranik, Environmental Officer, KSPCB Regional Office, Udupi, gave an overview of World Water Day. The talk was followed by an interactive quiz session on water.

Radhakrishna S. Aithal, Principal of the Institute, Ganesha A., Dean (Academics), and Siju V. Soman, programme coordinator, were present.

Hockey tournament: The School of Management (SOM) organised the Manipal University Intercollegiate Hockey Tournament in Manipal on March 19 and 20.

Nandini Lakshmikantha, Director, School of Communication, inaugurated the tournament at MIT Hockey Grounds.

In her inaugural speech, she spoke of how hockey had been neglected in the country. She congratulated the Indian women’s hockey team on winning the Hockey World League (HWL) Round 2 Championship.

She said that Manipal University gave equal importance to all sports and games.

K.V.M. Varambally, Director of SOM, welcomed the gathering.

Narayan Prabhu, Assistant Physical Director, MIT, introduced the teams to the dignitaries.

S. Lakshmi Narayanan, Sports Advisor, SOM, proposed a vote of thanks.
