Students participated in the Youth Day programme held at Government PU College for Girls in Kolar.

Yuva Sapthaha: The Government First Grade College at Vemagal in Kolar has sponsored the Yuva Sapthaha, the Yuva Sammelan, and the district-level Vivekananda jayanthi programme organised by Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports on January 12. G. Shivappa, lecturer of Kolar’s Government College for Women, delivered a special lecture on the famous Chicago speech of Swami Vivekananda. He underlined the need for adopting Vivekananda’s teachings for harmony and world peace. Vivekananda not only spoke about the nobility of Hindu religion, but also about the shortcomings of this religion, Mr. Shivappa said. Vivekananda’s opinion that this earth would have been much more beautiful had there been no wars still has relevance, he added. Those professing religious superiority should draw a lesson from this, he said.

The Department’s assistant director, B. Rudrappa, participated. Prizes were given to students who won the elocution contest.

Youth Day: K.S. Krishnamurthy, principal, Government Pre-University College for Girls, Kolar, has suggested that students read book on great personalities and emulate their ideals in life.

He was speaking at the Yuva Dinacharane programme on the college premises on January 16.

Orthopaedician Dr. Narendra, the chief guest, called upon the student community to be dedicated and work hard in order to achieve a better position in life.

Retired Deputy Superintendent of Police Rangappa spoke.
