I want information about the Dravidian University in Andhra Pradesh. I have completed B.A. in History, Economics and Political Science. I am presently engaged in business and thought of taking up programmes in the area of languages. I intend to get into school education with a focus on languages.

The Dravidian University (www.dravidianunivesity.ac.in), billed as an Inter-State University, was established in 1997 with an intent to inculcate the spirit of national integration, through the framework of research, translation, publications, and of course teaching. Located in Kuppam, Chittor District, Andhra Pradesh, the University was established by the Legislature of Andhra Pradesh, with the support of Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The main goal was to promote integrated studies on the common heritage of the Dravidian languages. As of today, the University has 17 Departments and six centres.

The University is a centre of excellence considering the fact that the School of Comparative Literature and Translation Studies engages in pertinent studies in the Dravidian languages and even English. The School of Human and Social Sciences, which has within itself the Department of Dravidian and Computational Linguistics; the Department of Folklore and Tribal Studies; and those of History, Archaeology and Culture provide ample opportunities for one to experiment with culture studies. The Department of Herbal Science under the School of Herbal Studies and Naturo Sciences is another first.

The University provides a specialised environment for the learner interaction with peers and the faculty. The South Indian Folk Museum, the Archives, the Centre for Preservation of Endangered Dravidian Languages and the Centre for Dravidian Lexicography provide many an opportunity to the learners. For more details you should contact the Dravidian University, Kuppam, Andhra Pradesh-517425. Ph: 08570-278220. Fax: 08570-278230.

I am presently in first year of PUC in the Science stream. I am interested in pursuing a short-term course in Animation. My dream, however, is to pursue Engineering. Guide me on courses that are available for students like me.

It is good to see students planning their careers well in advance. Ensure that the learning does not intervene in your studies considering that you are in the crucial part of your academic life and your aim is to join Engineering programmes on completion of Pre-University. First and foremost, you must decide the programme that you would like to pursue and stick to the same. Making changes in the middle will lead to a situation of no return, wherein you will be losing out on time and even money. Hence, a decision should be taken in consultation with your family and you should convince yourself of the need for pursuing the programme of your choice. You should ensure that you follow up on the programme without any obstacles.

You should make efforts to identify your strengths and weaknesses from an academic point of view and decide and ensure accomplishment of the task. Visiting an education counsellor and speaking with family members will help you to take a decision.

B.Sc-NT provides in-depth conceptual understanding and knowledge of the best technology in Networking (Wired/Wireless), Security and Voice Solutions. I am a technology specialist and have corporate experience for the past 29 years. I want to pursue a short-term programme in Indian heritage and culture as I want to understand the history and archaeology of our country better. I have decided to travel across the State to begin with and then go across the country.
