The research work of a professor of Hyderabad Central University promises to find an easy alternate to cumbersome high dose radiotherapy in cancer research and the work was quoted in the recent issue of high impact journal “Cancer cell” with an impact factor of 27.5.
Dr. Hridayesh Prakash from the Department of Biochemistry, School of Life Sciences, Hyderabad Central University (HCU) claims the work shows the indispensable role of macrophages; one of the major components of innate immune system, in affording immunity against neuro-endocrine, solid and non-respectable tumour of pancreas. He is presently Ramanujan Fellow at the HCU.
The study was done by Dr. Hridayesh Prakash along with colleagues of his previous institute German Cancer Research Centre (DKFZ) Germany. Dr. Prakash claimed that the experiments explicitly demonstrated that macrophages directed approaches as indispensable components of future immunotherapeutic strategies against established tumours.
Dr. Prakash, who is an M.Sc. from IIT Roorkee and doctorate from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi and Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Science, DRDO specialises in Pulmonary Infection Biology, Macrophages Immunobiology, Host Apoptosis regulation, Signal Transduction, Tumour Immunology (lung and pancreatic cancer).
He also worked as post-doctoral scientist at the Department of Dermatology, University Medical Centre, Heidelberg, Germany.
