With the Class XII examination results for the State Board having been announced and the CBSE results expected soon, students and their parents are now busy weighing up career options. The Hindu Education Plus Career Fair 2010 will provide a panel of experts from different fields to answer questions ranging from “What college can I get with my engineering cut-off mark?” to “Is there a future for me in a government job?”
The fair, sponsored by VIT University, will be held at the Chennai Trade Centre, Nandambakkam, on May 21 and May 22. On Friday, the fair will be inaugurated by State Information Technology Minister Poongothai Aladi Aruna and VIT University Chancellor G. Viswanathan. The Editor-in-Chief of The Hindu, N. Ram, will participate.
At 10.30 a.m., a session on pre-counselling seminar will be held with participants including A. Jayaprakash Gandhi, education consultant, for engineering counselling, and Sudha Seshaiyan, who will provide inputs on medical counselling. The session is sponsored by P.B. College of Engineering.
Between 2.00 p.m. and 4 p.m., the IT EDGE panel discussion for career opportunities will be held, with panelists including Ramkumar from Cognizant and Venkatakrishnan from DO-IT. A session on core engineering sponsored by VIT University will be held following this with speakers elaborating on options for those who wish to continue in their core engineering field.
On May 22, a session on management studies ‘Board the Board', sponsored by Everonn Global School of Business, will be held, with speakers discussing the different aspects related to management studies: entrance exams, the atmosphere in a B-school, what is required of a management graduate. A psychometric test conducted by Bodhi for those who register will be held at 12.30 p.m.
In the ‘Off-Beat Options' segment, sponsored by AMET University, speakers will discuss opportunities in government services — the Union Public Services Commission examination and State-level examinations, and in Petroleum Engineering and Fashion Designing.
Entry to the fair is free. Free shuttle service will be available on both days from Guindy Railway Station and from opposite Koyambedu Bus Terminus to Chennai Trade Centre between 8.30 a.m. and 7 p.m.
