The Zone 9 of Chennai Corporation has taken measures to end the decade-old problem of flooding on Santhome High Road.

“A couple of storm water drains, one located near KFC Restaurant and the other on the road leading to Foreshore Estate, have been de-silted after 40 years. We had to dig the road and de-silt the drains. As the area from Marina Beach to Santhome is low-lying, the thoroughfare gets flooded,” said G. Vidhya, Assistant Engineer, Zone 9.

To prevent flooding in the future, the Corporation has put chute pipes connecting the sewer drains.

“Though there will be flooding for a brief period of five to ten minutes, the pipes will suck the water to the drains. We have also de-silted the disposing point near the Adyar creek. The water from the storm water channels drains to the creek,” she said.

The road will be re-laid as soon as the sewer drain slab laying work is completed.
