It is called Police Quarter Street, but there seems to be hardly any order on the stretch. Sandwiched between the T. Nagar Bus Terminus and the West Mambalam R-3 Police Station, this stretch is a mess at all times. Most buses drop and pick commuters from the back entrance of the facility, which faces the road. Just before the point of boarding or disembarking, piles of garbage create a nauseating atmosphere.
“The garbage bin is always overflowing. Whether you get off from the front door or back door of the bus, the same sight greets a commuter. Most people cover their noses with handkerchiefs and dupattas to avoid the stench. The entrance is alright. But some buses stop before the entrance and at a point where a garbage bin has been placed. It is difficult to disembark here,” says Uma, a commuter.
Adding to the problem is open urination by many. “People use the stretch as a lavatory. The smell is unbearable. Even people waiting inside the terminus near the back entrance say they cannot withstand the smell,” says Mahesh, another commuter.
The commuters want either MTC to ensure that passengers are dropped and picked inside the terminus or the road is kept neat and clean.
