Lack of dedicated footpaths on Mudichur Road, West Tambaram, is making life miserable for pedestrians. For, they are forced to walk on the thoroughfare with the risk of accidents creepily accompanying them. Even The commercial establishments, dotting the stretch, are said to have usurped much of the road space.

People visiting the commercial establishments located on the stretch, park their vehicles on the road hindering free movement of vehicular traffic.

“Pedestrians are the worst-affected as the road space is used as a parking space. There are several two-wheeler service centres on the stretch and the mechanics repair the two-wheelers on the road. At least, two to three vehicles are parked in front of each service centre. Pedestrians squeeze in between the vehicles to avoid walking on the road,” R. Sathyan, a resident of Krishna Nagar, said. “The thoroughfare is not safe for pedestrians, needs footpaths for a safe walk,” he pointed out.

Moreover, motorists race, a few for fun and a few others to reach their destinations on time. It is a common sight to see vehicles trying to overtake one another, honking mercilessly at pedestrians signalling them to make way for them. This Mudichur Road serves as a link to Padapai, Vandalur, Thiruneermalai, Walajabad and Sriperumbudur. Pedestrians have requested the authorities concerned to remove the encroachments and construct pavements at the earliest.
