Get a tattoo, buy from a range of t-shirts and take a break at the millet counter or sip a health drink.
The sixth edition of the Terry Fox Run Chennai, at IIT-Madras on August 24 (from 8 a.m.), promises to be fun, as the participants get ready once again to run, walk or cycle for the cause.
Student volunteers from Stella Maris College and a few other institutions will do tattoos for children and calligraphy on the certificates that will be issued to the participants after the event.
This year, apart from making it a fun event, the organisers are serious about spreading the green message through the run. “No cars will be allowed inside the IIT campus and will have to be parked outside. “Even two-wheelers face restrictions on where they could be parked. Plastic water bottles will not be entertained on the campus,” said Sudarsan Ranganathan, who part of the Terry Fox Run organising committee.
The Run was initiated in the city by Akash Dube in 2009, who later died of cancer in 2012. Rotary Club of Madras East and IIT Madras have been its strongest supporters.
Over 15,000 people are expected to take part in the run. So far, it has received over 4,000 online registrations alone.
Students from schools, colleges, Officers’ Training Academy, officers of the Indian Army Southern Command, employees from corporate houses interested in cancer awareness will be running for the cause.
The money raised this year will be donated to Vision Research Foundation of Sankara Nethralaya towards research into Retinoblastomas in children.
There is no registration fee. For more information visit >http://www.terryfox.org/Foundation/Policies.html .
