It’s the perfect time to get a pixie or a bob cut for the summer. But, who would want to step out into the scorching heat? Palavakkam resident Sushanth Shyamsundar has the perfect solution. He calls himself a travelling stylist, who will come to your doorstep to give you the much-needed makeover. He will even do it for free if you agree to donate a mop of your hair, 10-inch-long, for charity.
Sushanth is a specialist in short hairs and will convince anyone into getting one. A copywriter at an ad agency during the day, he does styling during the weekends. He says he traded his cooking skills for learning how to style.
“I went to Georgia on a foreign exchange programme and I befriended a lady who ran a salon there. She wanted to learn how to make Indian dishes and I was impressed with her skills. We decided to share our areas of expertise,” smiles Sushanth, who went to study at the University of Miami and get trained under a stylist in Miami for two years.
He decided to donate the hair of his clients for charity and not charge a penny for the cut. “I am not associated directly with any charity organisation. I just do my part and spread awareness about the cause. Cope with Cancer is one organisation that I often refer people to,” he says.
Not being associated with a particular brand or salon allows him the much-needed creative freedom. “I think I am not restricted by the confines of salon/sponsorships. I get more time to talk and understand my clients, their needs and expectations. I am easily accessible, either through phone or Facebook. People have to drop me a message and we can figure it out from there,” he says.
