Commuters at Chromepet Railway Station want Electrical Multiple Units (EMUs) on fast lines to stop at Chromepet Railway Station. They say the EMUs should have additional stoppages including Chromepet, Tambaram Sanatorium and Meenambakkam.

“We need more EMUs on the fast lines to stop at Chromepet during the rush hour. The demand for stoppage of fast EMUs is not new,” says A. Parthipan, a commuter.

He considers it sad that the Chromepet Railway Station, one of the largest stations, after Guindy and T. Nagar, in terms of number of commuters, has been denied such a basic advantage.

“Except for the 9.15 a.m. and 9.30 a.m. EMUs from Chengalpattu and Tirumalpur, none of the fast EMUs stops at the station. The commuters are clueless and cannot even approach a railway staff to enquire about the timing of EMUs on fast lines, and whether it will stop or not,” says R. Kalpana, a commuter.

By the time commuters reach the right platform for fast EMUs, the train departs and they have to come all the way to suburban EMU platforms for the next train. Sometimes, commuters end up missing both the fast EMU as well as the suburban EMU.

Senior citizens and women are the most-affected as they cannot go from one platform to another. Lack of announcement through speakers systems and digital timing board on all the four platforms has put commuters at an inconvenience.
